I have found the Sony VAIO to be a great laptop for the price. In particular, I love the 15.4" screen and resolution.
Great product
I bought this laptop for $675.00,a few days later the price went up by about $50.00.So already I am happy about getting a good deal.

Will people please read specs b4 purchasing?!?!?!?
I really despise when consumers with limited knowledge make comments about products.
The product description clearly states that the notebook comes with 1GB of DDR memory with a capacity of 2GB ("The 1 GB of installed DDR2 RAM (PC4200, 2 x 512 MB DDR2, 533 MHz"). If a consumer feels that they need at least 2GB of DDR memory to run programs on their computer, they should purchase DDR memory at the time of purchase of the computer or look for another computer that comes with your minimum requirements. If you are running Vista, as most of these notebooks have, I do recommend that you purchase additional DDR memory and delete any of the software that you will not need that comes preloaded on the computer. Get rid of all of the stuff that starts at start up and you will reduce the time to start up your computer. Otherwise, it may appear sluggish.
As to your buzz, it is probably the fan. You are more than likely overheating the unit.
I purchased this computer for $549 at Best Buy on a recent sale. I am a HUGE Toshiba laptop fan, but couldn't resist the features at this price. I love the fact that there are 4 USB peripherals and almost everything is located on the side of the notebook instead of the back. It makes it easy to disconnect when you are on the go. It's a good weight, lighter than my Toshiba, but not so light that you think it will break at a moments notice. The screen is nice, bright and easy to read. I paid half of what I normally pay for a notebook, but I am just as satisfied thus far.

sony
While I am satisfied with my lightweight, easy to tote along,Sony Vaio 15.4" laptop, I am very disapointed with the product delivery. The battery was not enclosed, nor was the mouse. Amazon gave me the number to reach Sony customer service and after 43 minutes of run around and being placed on hold several times, I gave up. I have been away from home since then and have not yet repeated my efforts. I ended up purchasing a battery locally in order to use the laptop on this trip. The missing mouse is not a problem as I have a blue tooth wireless mouse that I will be using instead. I expected more from Sony. Unless I get satisfaction soon this will be the last Sony product that I will purchase. (Forget the new HD large screen TV-if they won't take care of something this small, I won't consider a large purchase.

Noise from the notebook
Compared with Dell Latitude D620, the SONY VAIO VGN-280 notebook has a soft but noticeable buzz. I think the noise may come from the fan. I should have tried this model of SONY laptops before I bought one. The other minor concern is whether 1G memory is sufficient for Windows Vista.
