Asus Laptop EeePC works slow has bugs

(1 out of 5) by Traveler H G on May 9, 2008 (NY area)
I ordered the EeePC in Pearl White but I received it flat white I figured it is just the color so I would live with it. I used it for a short time and found it very slow and would lock up from time to time. I decided to return it due to poor product performance and wrong color from original order. I feel the company needs to work out the rest of the bugs before releasing it to the general public.

Narrow functionality

(3 out of 5) by Anna Kay Von Dueszeln on Mar 3, 2008 (Wirtz, Virginia United States)
I think this is a terrific ultra for narrow usage. Email and Skype are probably the most functional and the resolution is fine. Problem starts when you want to browse on a 7" inch screen. Small screen and imperfect touchpad makes it a chore. A touch screen would be easier. But I would recommend it for communication purposes only.

But does it really have a dial-up modem??

Asus Eee PC 4G Surf (7" Screen, 800 MHz Intel Celeron Processor, 512 MB RAM, 4 GB Hard Drive, Linux Preloaded) Pure White
All the reviews sound great, but does it have a dial-up modem? The data/info on this Amazon site say that there is one but when I saw one at a local dealer the RJ-11 hole was plugged up and they said no modem came with it. I called Asus support (what a joke) and they said no modem. How absurd! Can it be? With no modem then it is of no use to me as most places I travel to and hotels that I stay in there is no WIFI access or it is exorbitantly expensive and I am not one to sit about in a cafe. It amazes me that no reviewer even mentioned this. As for WIFI, I currently use a USB WIFI modem at the end of a six foot USB extender cable to keep the radiation off of me, otherwise I got splitting headaches after an hour or two with it directly plugged in to my Sony VIAO. When I played with the EEE in a store for about 45 minutes I began to feel nauseous, so, needless to say, I wouldn't be using the built-in WIFI modem.

EEE=erase, erase, erase

(1 out of 5) by Piers I. Lewis on Apr 25, 2008 (st. paul, mn.)
This is a pretty good little computer in SOME ways. Don't put a SD card into it, though, because there is a pretty good chance it will be erased. That, at least is what it did to MY SD cards.

Amazon Customer Service Leaves alot to be desired

(1 out of 5) by Eric Campbell on Jun 14, 2008 (Erie, PA United States)
I purchased this unit, was not able to use it and returned the item to Amazon USPS delivery confirmed. It has been over 3 weeks now and even though I got return authorization, used the Amazon provided bar-coded return packing slip and packing labels I have not received a refund. When I contacted Amazon by phone and email they could not provide help asking me to call back in a MONTH! I have been an Amazon customer for over five years, but cannot consider them again if this refund does not happen SOON!
