This is the best product on the Market!!!! Never had a problem with the player and download filters. Thanks you Clearplay for giving us back our choice.

Nice Idea, but Player Might Die On You, Filters Sometimes Don't Load

(2 out of 5) by Joseph Geniec on Sep 25, 2009 (Indiana, USA)
The idea sounds wonderful. But here's my experience:

1. I've had a lot of problems getting the filters to load on the player at times- sometimes it would just hang when I'd put the USB filter stik into the DVD player.

2. I really liked the DVD player for a while (it even had an optical out + component video), but.... the player itself died after about 9 months. Plugging it in now does nothing, and it has my DVD prisoner inside. Clearplay only gives a 90-day warranty, so beware! I had the "updated" model DVD player as well- CP427BUSB that's supposed to "resolve all the problems."

3. However, if you're after the 90 day mark, they'll usually offer you another "free" DVD player if you buy another year's service though. (about the cost of the DVD player, roughly.) Given #1 above though, I decided to let dead dogs lie. You'll have to ask yourself whether you want to take the chance that they'll continue to be nice enough to send you new players.

I hope these guys get their act together because their business model seems like it's really a good idea, and there's definitely a market for this. They need to take the hit for bad merchandise and not push that off on the customer though.

Awesome

This is one of the best pieces of A/V equipment I have ever bought! We now own three of these clearplay dvd players. They are a little tricky to learn at first, so I don't recommend them for the techno-challenged, but they are great for your whole family to watch PG-13 movies without all the crap. Basically we are watching edited airline versions of movies now, and if my older kids want to watch movies with more of the violence or whatever I can fine tune the settings and let them. Great product!

Worst service, software, hardware, I have ever experienced

(1 out of 5) by R. Anderson on Aug 11, 2008 (Cedar Hills, UT)
The Clearplay has clearly been the worst consumer experience I have ever experienced. I have experienced problems with every aspect of their product. These problems include website malfunction, unclear instructions, non-responsive telephone tech support, uneducated tech support both through e-mail and telephone, a corrupt filter stick (how does this happen out of the box?), software that doesn't work and is extremely difficult to use (both PC and Mac solutions are horrible), and DVD player that is both cheap and non-functioning (after two replacements a product should work)! What a fantastic idea but implementation has been nothing but a nightmare. I have spent over 20 hours of my precious time trying to get this product to work. It just hasn't. I would not purchase this product, nor recommend doing any business with their company. I can't even cancel my membership over the phone because their phone system doesn't work properly. I have had to call my credit card company to put a stop payment on their monthly service.

If you enjoy headaches, this is the product for you.
