teac brand

(4 out of 5) by Arif Shalahuddin on Jan 23, 2009
The CD drive came with CD driver. I questioned how to access the CD driver when we just bought the drive for it ? it's silly. The manual confirm that we need that driver to make the CD work. But when I connected the CD drive to my computer, it worked without having to install driver. I use WIndows XP on my acer aspire one netbook. From windows explorer I see that the CD drive's brand is Teac, which is I recognized as a brand that commonly used as OEM for other brand. Teac rarely sells their product to end customer. So, it's not bad. I rated 4 star because for that price it can work properly and simple, but the CD driver is junk (nero software inside can't be installed) and the user manual is useless. By looking at the price, I doubt on its durability. I think it is susceptible to shock and vibration that caused some other reviewers dissappointed.

Good enough!

I bought this to go along with my Asus Eee PC that I purchased. I run Windows XP, and when plugged into the USB port not only did it recognize the drive, but it also automatically installed the driver and within 30 seconds I was installing Microsoft Office. I would imagine with heavy use, this product may not have longevity but for someone who doesn't use many CD's it is definitely worth saving the money!

Not fancy, but it works

I recently got a mini-laptop and I needed a CD drive in order to use CDs. I didn't need to load any drivers and it worked just fine. I don't use it every day, but It is handy when I just need to use the CD. The drive is loud but it works perfectly.

You get what you pay for

I bought the External CD drive for $16.25.
There was no installation CD, no problem.
The item is defective (doesn't close) no problem.
If I hold the unit closed, it reads the CD.
For the money, it will do (to load software onto a netbook).
The unit was shipped fast. Who needs total functionality.

Enjoy
