Saved me a lot of money

(5 out of 5) by Lauren Pennington on Jul 16, 2008 (Ohio)
I was kind of skeptical to buy this product, but I bought it anyway. So when I received it a few days after ordering I opened it up and hooked it up to my laptop. My laptop cd-rom drive stopped working a few months ago. So when I hooked this up it immediately installed the driver software and works amazingly so. I was very impressed with this product and highly recommend it to anyone who needs a slim, lightweight, new cd-rom drive.

I can't begin to tell you how pleased I am with this product! It seems to have came
out of that box like a genie in a bottle cause so far it has fulfilled just about
every wish. I can play CD's again and that is just great! It is excellent in every way and works quite well, we have had no complaints and no problems.

NOT a DVD drive but perfectly good generic CD drive

(4 out of 5) by A. Dent on May 10, 2009 (Minas Anor, GD)
It could be used to add CD-reading capabilities to a netbook or maybe as an additional USB-connected CD drive.

This must be emphasized because, these days, we tend to assume that what we used to call the 'CD drive' would allow us to watch movies on our computers. It is not the case with this device which is solely a CD-ROM drive. It will play music off your CDs and it will read any files stored on CDs but it will NOT recognize the DVD format.

As a CD drive, it performed flawlessly when connected through the USB port on my Vista machine.

You will find the following in the box:

- the CD drive itself
- USB cable to connect to computer
- cable to connect to external power supply (not needed and external power supply is not provided)
- mini CD disk with drivers (not needed in my case)
- 3-paragraph 'manual'

Worth mentioning:

- drive is very slim - 1/4"
- on my Vista laptop installation was automatic and the drive was recognized immediately
- a USB 2.0 port appears to provide all the power the drive may need
- a second 'power cable' is provided for just in case your USB interface can't provide sufficient power but there is no power supply

No good...but tried again with results, failed again

(1 out of 5) by Wonderbuns on Feb 23, 2009 (Minneapolis Minnesota)
I plugged it in and it said that it had loaded the drivers but the cd just kept spinning. The mini-cd said to load it in the floppy drive so i tried that and then couldn't get it out. Finally used a tweezer. I tried it in a working cd and it didn't do anything. I did see the menu on my new computer, however. I thought plug and play was really plug and play!!!

I got a call from the vendor who offered, very kindly, to take the product back. I said that I wanted to give it another try and did and it did not work again. I then realized when I tried a third time that it had installed. I went to the computer, drive C and rt clicked to get into the properties and set up the default for autoplay. It works!! Was quite impressed with the customer service. They need a better translation on the "manual" and more detail. Also, the mini-cd gets stuck in the floppy drive...not sure you really need it anyway. I am now happy with the result!

Spoke too soon. The next day couldn't find the drive and couldn't reinstall it. Tried for a long time and finally sent it back.
