Aluminum HD Enclosure - USB Case

(4 out of 5) by KC on May 5, 2008 (Utah)
Enclosure works well for various drives (SATA, IDE, etc). Cables are somewhat pinched when pushing it all back into the case (both ends come off), so I've usually unscrewed the end where the plugs are and connected it outside of the enclosure, then slid it all back in, screwing back on the end with the plug once I've backed it all back in. It'd be nice if the case were just a bit longer so the cables didn't get packed in as much - I'm concerned that the leads from the small computer board in the case. Also, I read another review that said the screws could eventually strip out the threads - I can see that this could happen as they are just threaded into the aluminum case. I rated it a 4 because of these things. Otherwise, the case is pretty solid and there are four screw holes in the case itself to secure the drive inside once you've slid it in.

I've used this when PCs have failed and I want data from the drive or want to wipe it again before disposing of the drive too. Also used it when I want to make a quick external HD that I can travel with. Case is all aluminum except for the caps, which are plastic.

I'd definitely buy another!
