Software needs improvement

(3 out of 5) by A. Sanderson on Nov 10, 2008
Using the drive a Airport Base in a mac household. The setup for the disk was reasonable and was able to get it up and working. However, the information for using some parts is rather lacking. For instance, I wanted to share music but certain formats are supported but yet it is not noted which ones. I find that the back tool hangs often to the point that it is unusable.

a little quirky, but solid

this product needed some updates to run properly...it would disable its connection with the router spontaneously, but now that the updates are done it works great. Now I just need to figure out how to get the fios modem/router to work properly without restarting it once a day

Lacie HD

(1 out of 5) by Brandon on Feb 19, 2009 (Chicago, IL United States)
I bought the 750G version of this HD. After only five months the HD just stopped working with no rhyme or reason. The company sent me a new power cable, but the drive itself does not allow me to access the more than 100G of information I entrusted on this product. The new power cable allows the drive to actually spin and the fan to run, but the lack or support given by Lacie doesn't allow me the chance to access my files.

When I took this to the computer store on my university's campus the tech person told me that he had seen a lot of Lacie products that had been failing. All I could think of is why the university computer store would actually sell this company's products when it's not reliable.

i didn't like that you had to install an app to configure. you also had to configure online. I thought you could use it as a usb drive....you can't it's only a network drive.

very happy

(5 out of 5) by Sean Walden on Feb 11, 2009
i have been very happy with this product. it was very easy to set up. i also like the way you can easily mount shared directories on this drive as you would any shared directory on a windows computer as well as get to the files stored on the drive via the web interface provided by the web based server running on the drive. unfortunately the transfer speed is not great i was seeing maybe 5MB/s. however it works great as a backup drive and file server for pictures and music.
