It does the job, although not as easy as one would expect. Software is somewhat cumbersome and not as versatile as you would suspect from the screen. The scribe does not burn a vivid image and is limited as to what you see is not what you get. Maybe I'm just too old.

Looks pretty nice out of the box. Didn't play DVD's well. Started moving frame by frame. Havent tried lightscribe yet, but sounds like a great feature.

I got this product for the office where we have a variety of laptops each with its own brand of CD/DVD R/RW etc and their problems. This product can handle reading and writing all kinds of compatible media. The recorded media can be easily read by a number of other players (in PC's or entertainment systems). The bonus is that it can read media which are rejected by other drives (scratched or badly recorded).
It does have a "hum" and vibrates with some media; it may startle you if you use it for the first time late at night and you're a bit tired. This last comment was meant more to amuse you than to turn you off the product. I watched movies from DVD's in this drive and it wouldn't interfere with the sound or picture.

Works as advertised. It burns my discs without giving me any problems. Hasn't kicked out a bad disc yet. Relatively quiet operation.

The first unit I received from Amazon would not install on my computer. I contacted Amazon, and they quickly shipped a replacement, which installed and works perfectly. It burns excellent quality DVD's, and I couldn't be more pleased. Also, another note of interest, Amazon sent me an e-mail stating that they had not received the return, and they were sending a reminder. I e-mailed back stating that the item was shipped back about 2 weeks prior, and they should have already received it, or should receive it very soon. They responded that my account would not be charged for the item. I hope they receive the return item.
