Ambivelent about product.

(3 out of 5) by Daniel McGowen on Mar 7, 2008 (Saint Louis, MO USA)
Lets start with the picture ... there are 3 pictures associated with this particular model. Unless I missed it I had no way to choose which one I received. I don't care so much about esthetics but there are some of you who might.

Set up was easy provided you don't read the instructions. The instructions on the quick start card differ from those in the manual. (I followed the instructions on the quick start card.)

I've burned 6 DVD's at the time of this review. The data on Disk 1 and 2 works fine. The light scribe process failed on both. Disk 3 & 4 burned fine. The light scribed labels on both look great and the data transfer went off without a hitch. Disk 5 ... the label looks great but the burner identified the disk as a blank CD rather then a DVD. Disk 6 had no issues. I used the same type of blank for each burn and made no adjustments to the settings. It seems unlikely that 3 of the 6 blanks in the same spindle would be bad.

Additionally, LiteOn, the manufacturer of these drives, provides no firmware for this model.

For these reasons I am ambivalent about my purchase. I'm excited when it works and unhappy when it does not.

BAD TECH SUPPORT

(1 out of 5) by Terrence P. Wood on Mar 6, 2008 (BELLAIRE, MICHIGAN)
I bought this product a couple of days ago and had trouble with it from the start. When I would record a video project, and then choose to burn the same project again....with nero....it would keep ejecting the disk with error messages that said burn process failed. I had to keep re-closing the door to the drive and after about 5 or 6 times it would finally burn again. I called tech support and got someone who could barely speak english, and she couldn't help me at all. I played around with the drive trying to get it to function properly but could not. Seeing I could get no help from tech-support I had no other choice but to return the drive as defective.

Looks like a great product, Not Mac compatible...

(1 out of 5) by E. E. S. on Jun 4, 2008 (Pasadena, CA)
This looks like a great product and, I'm sure it is. If and only if you own a PC. It completely failed to work on my Mac Mini (1.25GHz, G4) and MacBook Pro. If you have a Mac, make sure that the drive explicitly says Mac compatible, it'll cost you more, but it's worth it. I'm very happy now with a refurbed Lacie drive that only cost $10 more.

LiteOn LightScribe DVD Burner

(5 out of 5) by D. Kragel on Mar 23, 2008
Fast, easy to install and haven't made a coaster yet!! The picture is incorrect, though...it is white on the top and smooth-does not look like the picture at all.

Great DVD Burner

The Liteon Dvd Burner worked great with both XP and Vista. I am very pleased with the product and the speed that Amazon shipped the product to me.
