Weather Forecaster

I bought this on clearance from Wally World for $30. It's an attractive device. I like the display layout with the current temp and forecast because it is not cluttered with too much information and easy to read. But the WeatherFX forecaster is far from perfect. The manual says it receives updates every 15 minutes from the network. This may be so, but it seems the network forecast is only updated once every 24 hours. I've never seen the weather forecast for the week change during the daytime. It always happens sometime in the middle of the night. The current temp appears to be a forecast also. I've seen the current temperature off by as much as 10 degrees when compared to my outside thermometer or the local news. On average I would say the current temp is within +/- 5 degrees of the actual temperature. Not horrible, but not up to date either. The weather forecast itself is about as accurate as any other weather forecast. It gives you a general idea of what to expect. One cool feature on this device is that when it downloads your local forecast, it downloads the forecast for all the cities it supports. So you can instantly check the forecast of about 150 US cities by using the "location" button. Another great feature is that it downloads all its data from a pager network and not the Internet or a PC. The backlight is nice and bright, but there isn't a button to turn it on or off. It is always on when the AC plug is connected and always off when running on batteries. For $30, it's a keeper for us. I would be disappointed if I had paid $100 for it.

Pretty brainless to figure out.

I purchased this today at Wal-Mart on clearance for $50. It's got a nice big display and I like the changing colors for the temperature. What I was hoping it had was an alarm for severe weather, and come to find out my nearest weather station is Lexington. Only Lexington and Louisville were listed in the directions. Fortunately I'm only about 40 miles from Lexington but that doesn't really do me any good for local weather. In any case for $50 I'm not to complain too much but I certainly wouldn't have paid $120 for it, like some people had. One other thing the magnet wasn't strong enough to fit on my refrigerator so I ended up putting it on the wall and using the AC adapter. Without the AC adapter you cannot use the backlighting function which comes in very handy if looking at it from a distance.

RR Review

(5 out of 5) by Russell F. Read on Apr 7, 2009
Product has proven to be very useful for showing the weather as we prepare for work in the morning. We usually miss the local news and weather and rely on the WeatherFX which has been very reliable.
I also liked the price of $57 during what was evidently a special as the price is now $84.
It would be nice to be able to dim the light, it is very bright at night.

It has a good display, And I'm only like 10 miles away from the station that displays so the weather is what it shows.

Better then most of them.

Not a bad deal if you get it for free.

I picked this up at Wal-Mart a few months back for $50 with a $50 rebate.. Free. Then I realized the closest city in the list was about 80 miles away. It gave us a decent idea of the weather but wasn't accurate for our area because of our distance. Last night I unplugged it to open up the power outlet for something else. Now that I have it plugged back in I keep getting the "Network Not Found, Try another location".. I haven't moved it, it is in the same location that it was when it worked for 3 months.

The different colors were nice but as someone already mentioned, they only work when plugged in and not when used on battery AND you can't dim the brightness.

This was a great deal for us considering it was free and it did work for about 3-4 months. Other then that it will probably go in the garbage.
