Top notch quality, performance, and service =)

Nov 29, 2007 - By Steve Hansu Kim (Orange County, CA)

I purchased a BlackBerry 88xx and I, like so many that buy these things, keep our lives in them. It keeps me in touch with everyone from friends, to work, to family. Email, IMs, txt messages, tasks, calendar, notes, passwords. I didn't know a phone could do so much.

One day, while I was trying to answer a call, I was pulling my BB out of the fumbly leather holster it came with, and I dropped the phone onto concrete. That was it. It was lights out. The 3 or 4 day down time until I received my new unit was almost unbearable. The insurance deductible didn't help. Then even though my service provider transfered all my phonebook, it didn't transfer all my calendar, notes, tasks, and most important of all, my passwords. I was more than a little disappointed.

I went on a quest to find protection. I first bought a silicone case from Verizon. The thin silicone sleeve is sort of a joke. I don't know what it's supposed to really protect it from. The only thing it was good for was scratches. If I wanted to keep my phone pretty, this was the ticket.

Then I saw a kiosk at a mall and bought a plastic case with a belt clip. First of all, the quality was absolutely horrendous. It barely stayed shut and the molding was horrible. It was thin and the belt clip that slid into place along the back was made of plastic about as thick as two sheets of paper. I didn't trust it. If I were to forget that I had it clipped into my belt and bumped it into my chair while sitting down or something the clip would've definitely broken off.

Then I got another plastic case that looked more rugged but sure enough, I broke the belt clip the 3rd day I had it by bumping the phone against a table while clipped in. Luckily the phone didn't drop because I don't know if the case would've held together if it had hit the floor.

Then I remembered Otterbox from storing my camera gear. I went to the website and sure enough they made a case for the BlackBerry. I promptly ordered it. I also pre-ordered a case for my iPod Touch.

When I opened the box, I was pleasantly surprised. It comes with a thin, clear, protective film that covers the screen as well as the keypad. The only thing exposed in the front is the pearl ball. The plastic body is extremely high grade. Feels like that of a polymer pistol like military grade plastic. And it's nice and thick. Once the plastic is clipped together, to hold it together, there's a thick silicone shroud that form fits around it. Together, the thing looks bulletproof. It's very intelligently designed with all the openings well spaced and areas curved out of the way for my fingers to work. It's a precision piece of engineering. The belt holster is the most rugged one I've ever seen. It tilts with nice positive clicks. And it's designed to hold the phone backwards so that it keeps the screen tucked out of sight. The holster also puts the phone to sleep when slid in.

There's no flex in the thing. I can practically sit on it. I think I can bounce it off a marble floor too. I also like how the keypad is covered so I don't mind replying to messages while my hands are dirty. I highly recommend this to anyone that works in rugged environments. If you're in the military, law enforcement, a contractor, even just in a sports recreation environment like camping, mountain biking, climbing, etc, I highly recommend this Otterbox case.

BTW, I lost my holster one day and I sent an Email to Otterbox regarding purchasing just a holster. A few days later, a wonderful lady named Jennifer in HR, shipped out a new one, free of charge. Fantastic people. I felt compelled to tell everyone.

A Tank of a Case

May 20, 2008 - By Stacy Spear (metro Atlanta)

This case is very nice. Its big however, so if your hands are too small, it may be uncomfortable. The size comes from the hard case extending out from the front and back to provide enormous protection. I dropped the phone (by accident) from about four feet. It hit the concrete, flipped a few times, and the call never dropped! I bought this case because my Berry looked brand new for 3 months, then over two weeks I had dropped it a few times, dinging it up. The phone is too pretty for that!

Pros:
-great protection (I put on the full package, the plastic screen and keyboard overlay are optional)
-no more oily screens!
-no more dings in the phone
-I can take it out on the boat and not worry about water spray getting on the device

Cons:
-you have to dismantle the entire case to pop the battery (especially when the ALT-NUM-DEL reboot doesn't fix the problem)
-never was able to remove all the air bubbles with the quick application method
-makes the device bigger than an 8700 (not really a con but some folks like the sleekness of the 88xx)

I highly recommend this to all 88XX series owners with fumble fingers.

Can't Buy Better Protection for your BlackBerry

Jun 13, 2008 - By Sunny (Huntsville, Al USA)

I purchased this case from ANTONLINE because they had the lowest price. They shipped very fast and the case is exactly as described.

Pros
1) the case provides Excellent protection for my blackberry. I have already dropped it (by accident) several times and no damage.

2) the three layers of protection
1 - water resistant inner skin
2 - hard protective case that just snaps on
3 - The silicon rubber outer skin

3) The case provides complete uninhibited access to the blackberry while providing excellent protection.

4) The holster automatically puts your blackberry into sleep mode (saves battery life, while still receiving all calls and email)

Cons
There is only one con to this case and it could be a showstopper for some buyers. The belt clip on the holster Cannot be removed! My wife would love to use this case on her blackberry, but the size of the non-removable belt clip on the holster makes it take up too much room in her bag.

Bottom line is that if the non-removable belt clip is not an issue for you, you cannot buy better protection for your blackberry at any price

Great Product

May 29, 2008 - By C. Cunningham (Tampa, Fl USA)

I bought this case after dropping my 8830 a few too many times. It was easy to use, goes on and comes off in a snap. It even made it through a little bit of water without destroying my phone.
