Does the job, but a PAIN to install

(3 out of 5) by MasterTech4523 on Mar 17, 2009 (Cambridge, MA)
I have installed many many vesa mounts - this is by far the most annoying to install. Normally it takes a good 5 minutes to unscrew the mount, and pop the mount on. This took 8 screws, a release, and a very time consuming dual bolt that you must perfectly align (and I mean perfectly) to get the final bolts to thread. I was surprised, but it appears this is because the metal is so specifically engineered, aligning the dual bolts is a serious luck of the draw. Total install time, a shocking 45 minutes. How annoying.

After that, it's just a mount. Does the job.

Well made, but difficult to install

The parts are all of very high quality, and it is very secure once you have the mount installed. Having said that, getting the thing installed is not easy.

The installation begins with inserting a plastic card (about the size of a credit card) into the back of your iMac 24"(what I was using; but it also works with an Apple LED Cinema Display). This is very satisfying, as it magically reveals 8 hidden torx screws. You remove these screws to remove the original base, then attach a (beautifully-machined aluminum) flange. All easy.

Here's where it gets harder: You then attach the mount adapter to the flange. A single torx screw is attached first before 2 more bolts are inserted. The instructions have a note indicating "[u]sing a high torque screwdriver may make it easier to tighten the center screw". That screw, as it is tightened, pulls the flange away from the back of the iMac allowing the 2 side bolts to align properly with the mount adapter. The center screw must be screwed quite far before the bolts will align properly, but this is complicated by the rather cheap torx tool provided, hence the note. I highly recommend obtaining a better torx screwdriver in order to drive the screw in far enough without stripping it. If you do this, it will eventual be aligned so that the side bolts go in rather easily.

Once installed, the base feels very secure and matches the style of the recent aluminum iMacs perfectly.

Simple solution

This item is a simple answer for mounting your imac. It takes a little precision to get the screws to line up but it does not take long and the thing is solid as a rock. (hint: make sure you screw down the middle screw as tight as you can before you try the side ones.) once this mount is on it is easly attached to a VESA mount and looks great! (I used the Peerless wall mount arm so i could swing it around and it is amazing!)

Apple imac VESA Mount

(5 out of 5) by G. Compton on Jan 16, 2008 (Auburn, Al USA)
Solid construction, easy to assemble and install. People have said that it doesn't fit the attachment when installed on a 24" imac but just don't tighten all of the screws down until the mount has actually been attached. Probably throughly reading the instructions would avoid this problem. The adapter fit perfectly onto my VESA mount and was easy to level once placed on the wall. Excellent product, I wish Apple would make the 20" imac stand removable so more people could use this product.
