Dangerous Highpowered Green Laserpointers
There are low-cost high-powered green laserpointers that aren't what they should be. Green laserpointers generate infrared light internally at 808 nm, slow it down to a longer wavelength of 1064 nm by pumping the IR into a crystal, and then feed that to a resonant cavity that doubles the frequency to the visible spectrum at half the wavelength which is 532 nm = visible green light. All green laserpointers have an infrared filter to eliminate the nonvisible and harmful IR light. Removing the filter allows more light energy to be emitted but most of the energy will be in the infrared spectrum. So technically it's a green laser outputting maybe 100 mw of light energy but most is in the invisible infrared spectrum and only a small portion, maybe 10 mw, is in the visible green spectrum. BIG DANGER HERE: Your eyes will observe a somewhat normal and faint green laser beam light when in reality they are being bombarded (or burned) with a much more powerful infrared beam mixed in. Extremely dangerous because your eyes will not perceive the high power infrared energy and you could go blind. (Not kidding about this.) In addition, you will be mildly disappointed because your laserpointer appears to lack the intensity you had hoped.

It is possible to purchase very high power green laserpointers but they are very expensive and must be used with the same caution as a loaded gun, or more so, due to unexpected reflection that can bounce the beam into your eyes or someone else's. They are not toys and eye protection should be used.

best laser i ever bought
I dont know what all of the fuss is about with the rest of the reviews on this item, but the laser i received is definitly at or close to the 100mw it states. It will pop dark colored balloons very quickly. it DOES burn through black colored plastic and Will light matches. Oh and with fresh batteries, if you point it at the back of your hand for a few seconds you can feel a slight burning sensation. All of these things I tested when the laser first came out of its box. i have a 50mw green laser that i bought on here not too long ago and it doesnt even come close to this one. The green dot is visible from 1/2 a mile in broad daylight. At night the entire beam is visible and will light up clouds. Overall...This is the best laser i ever bought!

Amazing, almost disturbingly powerful.
Extremely, perhaps absurdly powerful for a hand-held laser. In the hand, looks like a regular laser pointer; but shine this one on a wall or screen, and the glare back is for all intents and purposes unbearable - almost if not probably harmful. As the ad says, this is NOT for using as a presentation pointer, and NEVER for children's amusement. THIS IS NOT A TOY - more like a weapon. Might be useful as an astronomy class tool for pointing at distant stars in the night sky - just make sure there are no airplanes flying around in the vicinity, or jail time may result (or worse).

SCAM!!!
Do not be fooled this is not a 100mw laser pointer i currently own a 50mw laser and this so called 100mw laser barely matches the intensity of my current 50mw, and when it arrived it didn't even come in the metallic box shown in the picture it came in a cheap white box, all they did was take a 50mw laser and replace the sticker with a 100mw laser pointer sticker, SCAM! SCAM! SCAM! Do not waste your money because as i found out the price really was too good to be true!

cool laser, but be careful, it can put an eye out!
I am a professional physicist and I bought this laser, as did my physicist buddy. Both lasers were measured using a power meter and the total output in both cases was about 65-70mW. We have burned black plastic, popped balloons, etc. While not 100mW, this laser is awesome and looks great outside at night. Definitely a great deal at $46 and very popular with my scientist buddies. Also, very dangerous. It is a Class IIIb laser which means you cannot blink fast enough to prevent eye damage if it makes it into your eye somehow.
