Weird button placement and loose wheel

(3 out of 5) by Ann T. Ho on Nov 21, 2008 (Seattle, WA United States)
I wanted this mouse because it's one of the few 5-button laptop/notebook mice. All the other features, including the flash drive and wireless receiver were bonuses.

It's a good little mouse. It's a nice size and fits well in my hand. I haven't had a problem with its responsiveness and tracking. I really like that it has an on/off switch, can use BlueTooth, and uses a AAA rechargeable battery.

The extra buttons on the side (I use for back/forward) are placed too far back for such a small mouse. I'd like it better if the extra buttons were on each side of the mouse like some of the old Microsoft corded versions.

The scroll wheel is too loose which doesn't serve me well when zooming in and out of detailed Visio diagrams.

The carrying case is too small to carry the mouse, the receiver, and the cord. It all fits but it's weird and bulky. It should at least fit receiver well.

Finally, I read a review by someone else somewhere that the mouse is too bulky (high) for a laptop mouse. I didn't think much of it until I put it in my bag. It could probably be flatter. I would've opted for flatter and a little longer.

Despite these cons, I still like the mouse and I'll keep using it until I find another notebook mouse with 5-buttons.

Great for windows, Horrible for Mac os X

(3 out of 5) by Bren T. Mcrae on Feb 27, 2009
The tracking is horrible on mac os x. It is very jumpy! I thought I had a defect when a friend of mine ordered the same mouse and had the same problem. However, this mouse works great for windows and is rechargeable and comes with a little case.

Decent features but poorly constructed

(3 out of 5) by M. Philip on Feb 7, 2008 (PA USA)
This mouse has the potential to be great. It's compact yet quite ergonomic and feature laden. Battery life is not bad at about 3 days continuous use and the built in charging feature is quite elegant. However, it's cheaply constructed. Less than 3 months after purchase the buttons are already lifting off. Maybe I got a mouse from a bad batch. But still, buyer beware.

Cute little mouse needs frequent feeding

(3 out of 5) by K. Chang on Feb 12, 2009 (New Jersey USA)
This is a mouse that my wife would love if not for the one problem. It's very cute and small to fit comfortably in her hand. However, this mouse is powered by a single AAA rechargeable battery, and a full charge only lasts about 2 days. It quickly became annoying having to recharge the battery every 2 days. We now use a charger to keep a spare AAA batter fully charged so that we can simply swap the batteries.

Except that one fault, this Microsoft Mobile Memory Mouse 8000 is quite a mighty mouse. It can connect to your laptop either with BlueTooth or 2.4GHz wireless using the included dongle. It uses laser to track its position with high precision. The dongle actually acts as wireless transmitter, 1GB flash drive, recharger and mouse wire. When you are charging the batter in the mouse, you can continue to use it as a wired mouse.

good value

(4 out of 5) by J. Scalf on Oct 22, 2009
This is a great value in my opinion. I paid 27$ after tax and shipping. It comes with a 1 gb flash drive that is used as a rf receiver and a charger for a aaa nimh battery. It also comes with a case made of neoprene that zips everything into it. Even if the mouse dies, you still have a 1gb flash drive. It works with bluetooth only if you install the microsoft suckware in osx. It worked for me in leopard and snow leopard, xp and vista. Sadly this mouse does not work well in linux because of the proprietary software. In linux you will only be able to use it with the 2.4 reciever and only able to use 3 buttons of the 5. There is linux software out there on the interwebs for full 5 button use, but I could not ever get it to work right. Also could find no support for bluetooth in linux. Bottom line: great value if you are ok with using the MS proprietary software and don't plan on using it in linux.
