Don't let the price fool you!!!

Sep 2, 2007 - By John D. Williams (Bloomington, IL)

Without getting all techie on you I will say that this RPTV is on par with the more expensive SXRD A3000. I know all about the A3000 and its color technology and 120Hz frame-rate but honestly I did my homework and this E3000 is on on equal footing despite lacking a few features and being of the 3LCD technology(which Sony really amped up here with 1080p and the Bravia tag). It's a great TV(the blacks & detail are amazing- thanks to the advanced Iris and Sony's Cinemotion), though I am partial to Sony TV's in general but save the money and get the E series over the A series. You might be surprised!!!!

You need to have HD cable, HD dvd player or hdtv's are not for you

Nov 1, 2007 - By Jake (US)

It is really important for those buying hdtv's to know that you will need HD cable or this tv will actually make your regular tv reception look worse. The same goes for dvds -- you will need to upgrade to the hd-dvd or blu ray to get the kind of quality that you should expect from an hdtv. I was playing my dvds on my old dvd player and thought -- why does this look worse. This set also does not have PIP and does take up to 30 seconds for it to start. Once it gets going, it's like any other tv. This is not specific to this tv but to all hdtv's, it just so happens that I have this tv and am a little disappointed. I play hd-dvds and blu ray and they look great, but regular non-1080p/i channels, look worse, as does dvds with a regular dvd player that does not upconvert -- I confirmed this with sony themselves. this tv is a lot lighter than what you would expect from rear projection tv's. If you've got a big lots in your area -- they got a tv stand for 129 that fits perfectly -- why pay 400 dollars for a tv stand!

You cannot go wrong with this TV

Jan 30, 2008 - By Alrik I. Bursell (California, USA)

I bought this TV back in November, I almost bought the upper level SXRD model but in the end I decided to stick with the cheaper version. Oh and was I ever surprised. I of course haven't been able to compare the two TVs but I just gotta say my image is nothing short of stunning. Watching movies from an HD source, or just watching HD sports is mind blowing. I just got a Wii and hooked it up via component cables and I don't think I have ever seen Wii sports look that good.
The real surprise though, something which some reviewers have complained about, is the SD image. I was prepared to grimace every time I watched something not in HD, thankfully that is not the case. I watch a lot of classic movies on TCM and other cable movie channels and I have to say I am very impressed. Especially when watching an older movie the image is surprisingly sharp. This TV seems very very very similar to the upper level SXRD version (as far as features, image quality etc.) are concerned and if you are a little tight on money this TV is a great choice. I could not be happier with my choice.

great value

Dec 22, 2007 - By Eric Lee (Houston, TX USA)

Picture quality was the biggest selling point for us. After shopping around at a few brick and mortar stores with both bright lighting and dim lighting, we decided we liked the picture on this TV the best in the up-to-$2000 range (and better than most plasmas, flat panel lcds, dlps, and sxrds they had, period). The biggest issue I have is the transition from light to dark scenes and vice-versa.
Sound is so-so. Acceptable, but not extraordinary in any way.
It has sufficient features for me. I only have an antenna (fantastic pictures and more channels compared to the old analog tv I had), vcr, and upconvert 1080p hdmi dvd player (which I learned later is mostly a marketing ploy) hooked up to it. Looking forward to the time they settle the HD-DVD/Blu-Ray thing.

Excellent value, buy now before it's too late

Jan 19, 2008 - By G. Dwyer

I recently purchased this TV on Amazon for a great price (I saved $300 over other major retailers) and I couldn't be happier. Not only is this TV priced very well, especially compared to flat panel versions, it is a great quality TV. The picture is excellent at 1080p, maybe not as good as a $5000 flat panel set (very close), but certainly not $3000-$4000 worse. Yes you will sacrifice some quality when you are not utilizing HD inputs, but this is to be expected on all HD tv's. Some complaints have been the slow warm up time and fan noise, yes it takes a while to warm up to full brightness (max of a minute), but not really a big deal, and the fan is not noticeable when the volume of the TV is above 2 or 3, and it is much quieter than say my PS3. Overall a great TV and when you consider you just have to replace the bulb when it dies I would definitely recommend buying this TV before Sony discontinues all of their rear projection TV's in Feb 08'.
