Fantastic Value

Sep 22, 2007 - By George Giani (Manchester, nj United States)

Purchased the Canon MP210 Printer/Scanner/Copier and I am very happy with it. I have another printer the Canon Pixma ip 4000 connected to my desktop which I use to print high quality photo's. I purchased the MP210 to use with my laptop and have been very pleased with it. The scanner and copy functions work flawlessly. The printer does a good job but I prefer the ip 4000 for printing color photo's. The set-up worked flawlessly, running Vista Home Premium, but took a while. You have to be patient and wait for the steps to complete. The best feature of all was the price. Unbelievable to get that functionality for $80.00. Purchase of this printer is a "no-brainer" for first time users and anyone with a restricted budget. Just remember, and this goes for ALL THE PRINTER MANUFACTURERS, that the cost of the replacement cartridges will exceed the cost of the printer after just 2 instances of cartridge replacements(its entirely possible that the low cost of the printer is being subsidized by the potential profits generated by the ridiculous prices of the replacement ink cartridges!)

Works great - once you get it to work

Feb 8, 2008 - By Bud Bundy (MN USA)

My old computer died, so I had to get a new one. Which of course means Vista. I couldn't get my old printer to work with the new computer, so I bought this one - "100% Vista compatible", or so I was told. Well, it didn't compat very well. I used the installation disk and went through the normal procedure. Everything went well until it told me to connect the USB cable and turn the printer on. After doing so, it sat there for a few minutes and finally told me the device was not responding. I tried this several more times, and also downloaded the latest drivers from Canon's website and tried installing those several times. Same problem. And yes - I did buy a new USB cable in case that was the problem. It made no difference at all.

I eventually ended up taking it to the Geek Squad at a local store, and after charging me about half what I paid for the printer, it now works. Text documents print fast, pictures look great, and the scanner and copier features work just fine. Woo-hoo.

I've had a home PC for over ten years now, and while I'm certainly no computer expert, I am fairly knowledgeable. Let me put it this way, I've installed plenty of printers and other hardware and software before with no problems. If it takes more than my level of technical knowledge to install one of these things, then that's too much to expect. Since the guy who worked on my computer wasn't there when I picked it up (and the people who were there had no idea what was done with it), I don't know if it was a problem with the printer, the software, my computer or Vista. All I know is that I couldn't get this thing to work without paying a professional to do it for me.

So, 5 stars for the printer, 0 stars for difficulty and expense of getting it to work. Averages out to 3 stars.

OK Printing, Eats Ink, Faulty at times

Nov 23, 2007 - By ChillsnThrills (New York, NY)

Bought the printer because a relative had had great experiences with PIXMA printer/scanner combos. Scanner works like a charm. Printer is an ink hound. I went through my black ink within 4 weeks of moderate printing. I printed no more than 150 pages. Printer broke on me by telling me that the feeder was "jammed" when in fact there was not one shred of paper in the machine. I must say, Canon customer service on the phone was very helpful and responsive and is in the process of mailing me a replacement(refurbished) printer. They weren't painful about it at all. That said, I'm not too happy the printer broke down. Print quality was a 7-8 on a scale of 1-10. Not as crisp as I've seen, but not terrible at all. Color printing was terrific, ironically enough, but that too sucks up a lot of ink. Speed was not painful at all.

Great little printer, fast and color is great!

Dec 27, 2007 - By Tara Lee Walker

Very happy with this printer - I bought the least expensive version of a color inkjet photo printer from Canon - and don't need the extras such as the slots and so forth. Using on a Mac. Not sure how long the ink will last. Plus the copy and scanning is very good too! So far not a problem. Fast hookup and looks great!

Best Printer I've Ever Owned!!

Feb 29, 2008 - By C. Wells (Phoenix, AZ)

I've had this printer for 4 months and it's Awesome! It prints pictures BETTER than walgreens and rite-aid! Color and Black & White is crisp and clean!
For the reviewers that have commented the pictures could be better perhaps its yor camera! We have a 10mega pixel camera and I can print nice big pictures, hang them on my wall and visitors think they're professional!
I am a chronic printer, I print everything and it has Never jammed or errored. I've printed thousands of pictures and text documents and am just now needing to buy new ink (which btw is cheap on ebay! color & b/w for $35!)
I've owned about 6 printers and this one beats even the more pricier ones!
Installation and setup is EASY, even for beginners.
The ONLY downfall is it doesn't come with a USB cord :(
I am a full time college student and I have a family so between school work and pictures you can't buy a better printer!
