Mom likes it!

(4 out of 5) by Michael J. Johnson on Sep 29, 2007 (Charleston, SC USA)
I bought this for my mom, who loves pictures. She is not very computer savy but she loves it. She said it was real easy to install and use.

Coby DP-151 Digital Photo Keychain

(3 out of 5) by R. King on Oct 23, 2008 (Midwest USA)
Alright, I spent some pepsi points for this, so I am not going to gripe to much about it. HOWEVER I will say, that at least PART OF THE PROBLEMS some people have been having, are due to the Poor Quality USB Cord itself. If you have an old USB cord from a Camera, I say pitch the one that came with the Coby DP-151 and use it, instead.

Yes the software does indeed work with XP, but it sure would NOT WORK with the supplied USB Cord!! The 1st try with the different cord made all the difference in the world.

The picture quality is alright, and easily worth the $9.99 it sells for now. I just got this Coby DP-151, and I have not tested the length of the battery life yet, but I will.

Again, PITCH the USB cord supplied with the Coby DP-151 and get a different one.(Remember one end will need to be small to fit into the Coby DP-151 itself)

This should help many people who heed these words, many many hours of waiting for a beep (which i never heard) and plugging and replugging in the USB cord to your computer.

BTW, I am a PepsiHolic, but the items available in this promotion are a far cry from the original pepsi Points. I sure hope the next pepsi point promo has better items like the Original Pepsi Point Promo from the 1990's.

Cheap, Effective Little Product

(4 out of 5) by J. Harris on May 17, 2008 (Virginia, USA)
Ok, like so many others, I was getting upset with this thing and was ready to trash it--despite reading the other instructions from other reviewers. I'm going to make a modification to what AME mentioned, not because what's written there is wrong, but because I still messed it up even with those precise instructions.

If you're getting "Cannot Connect to Device!" then do the following:
1. Uninstall the current Photo Viewer software.
2. Go to Cobyusa.com at: http://www.cobyusa.com/?p=prod&prod_num_id=80&pcat_id=3001
3. Download the CORRECT VERSION FOR YOUR MODEL! You most likely have the DP-151SX. Check the back of the keychain for the fine print, and it will tell you. Make sure you download the right version. If you're getting Cannot Connect to Device, you probably have installed the MP version.
4. Install the software by running setup.exe
5. Connect your key chain to the computer
6. Choose USB Charge. Let it charge for the approximately 1 hour necessary.
7. Disconnect it when fully charged
8. Reconnect the keychain, choose USB Update
9. Run the photo viewer software
10. Load all desired photos into a folder on your desktop (or somewhere else convenient)
11. From software interface, open select photos to load onto keychain
12. Crop the photos as necessary; if you are confused, download the setup guide from that same Coby USA URL above. There aren't many buttons, if you click them all you'll eventually get it.
13. If you've got the SX version, when it's done it will say "Download Completely!"

Hopefully this helps. Best of luck. For $14, I must say I'm pretty pleased.

If you cannot get photos to load - start here...

(4 out of 5) by H. Sapiens on May 8, 2008 (Sacramento, CA United States)
I would have returned this item if it wasn't for some of the other reviews. So, just to reiterate - if you installed the software and cannot get the photos to load - here is what worked for me.

Uninstall the software.
Make sure the keychain is NOT plugged in
Go to Cobyusa.com - search DP-151
Download the Photo viewer software (it's the first choice under the picture of the keychain, do not use the individual drivers!)
Install software
Restart computer
Load all desired photos into a folder on your desktop (or somewhere else convenient)
Plug in keychain - put in update mode
Open photo viewer software
From software interface, open select photos to load onto keychain
Add photos onto keychain individually - FYI, they all get cropped and you can move the crop zone around and make it smaller, but not bigger
When done, click the multi-colored circle on top right corner to actually download the photos to the keychain - it will not say "download complete" it will just stop.
Ctrl-Q yourself out of there, unplug, and enjoy

Frustrating things:
-The software that came with the keychain did not work.
-You cannot drag and drop photos into the software - hence make it way, way, way easier on yourself and put all your desired photos in a temporary file (esp if you are like me and use iPhoto so your photos are stored by year, month, date... in sep files). iPhoto users CAN drag and drop from iPhoto into a new file (say your desktop) - so this is a BIG time saver
-Wide photos (lots of people) will be cropped square - so you run the risk of cutting off faces
-Some photos look stretched funny
-I spent two hours of my life that I cannot get back trying each of the drivers online at their "support pages" before going to the product page at Coby and pulling that software
-The silver clip/chain looks cheap compared to the rest of it

Pros:
-Blue is beautiful - really rich, shiny color
-Cheap
-Easy if you follow my instructions and don't even bother with theirs
-Photos actually look pretty good (better than I thought anyway)
-Software was very easy (except no drag drop, having to pull photos up individually)
-Can set it to slideshow with multiple timing options
-Has a clock that synced with my computer - can set it to turn off at a certain time!
-Rechargeable battery

Sorry this is so long - but it nearly had to go back - so hopefully this saves someone some frustration.
