Don't waste your money

Don't waste your money on materials to build a cantenna. I set up house in an airstream in the woods about 250' behind the parents house. I was using a linksys card in my pc to pick up the wifi signal from my zoom router\switch inside the house but after the move I was out of range. The cantenna I spent a good chunk of time and money on picked up the signal but it was very weak. Then I got online and ordered 2 usb wifi adapters with realtek chips, the $18 one and the alfa. The generic one got delivered first. When I hooked it up and installed the driver it picked up pretty good in the window. It wasn't off the charts or anything but I was back online. I put it on top of the camper and picked up a signal from another network router that I knew about and a third that I didn't realize was at a neighbors about a 1\4 mile down the road. But those signals were barely registering. Then the Alfa arrived and I was thoroughly impressed. I didn't even have to move it off the table and I was getting 5 bars, and picking up signals from the other two networks. On the roof I was sure I would pick up Washington D.C. but it was just the three networks as before only the signals were excellent and very good. This alfa is everything that the manufacturer claims that it is. I'm very satisfied with it. If you need to boost your wireless signal or increase the range of it. This is definitely the product for that and I have no doubt that it is indeed the strongest on the market.

Works as advertised

Got this in the mail today - and simply plugged it in. After reading about the driver issues on previous posts, I figured I'd go that route. I'm using Windows XP on an older Gateway laptop - and Windows found the RealTek driver for the device automatically.

After disabling my internal wireless card - I am able to see many more nearby networks, about 25 - all at 4 bars or better.

Previously, I could see four or five.

My only concern is if this will drain my battery any faster - it's short enough as it is.

Well worth the money.

Does the Job.

The little jewel does the job. I connected it to my laptop and was very surprised that I could locate and connect to three other access points that my laptop's wireless card couldn't even see. We took it on vacation and were able to easily connect to the RV Park's WIFI system which we could not do with our existing wireless card. I would recommend this wireless adapter to anyone needing extended range.
