Worth every penny
(4 out of 5) by Paul on Jun 11, 2009 (Nashville, TN USA)This unit provides Wi-Fi to a PC. The signal strength I get has improved to the point that even if my neighbor uses the same wi-fi channel, I get clear operation.
It is not a repeater, simply a USB Wi-Fi adapter.
It comes with no instructions because... none are needed! Plug the unit in, your PC sees new hardware. Put the included CD in and let it install.

This thing really does work as advertised

To install on Windows XP, first plug the device into a USB port, and the "install wizard" will pop up and tell you that you should insert the CD that comes with the adapter. Go ahead and put the CD into your CD drive, and tell the wizard to look for the driver on that drive. Then just follow the wizard to the end, and your adapter will be ready to use. The whole installation process takes under two minutes.
Like others who have commented here, I instantly got much improved reception. I was using a Linksys USB adaptor that could barely detect a signal in the downstairs corner of my house. With this new high power adapter, I am getting an excellent signal (I went from one bar to five bars in the reception).
I tried other "range boosting" solutions and they didn't work. This one does, and it's easy to install.

Turns into a great wireless EVDO/HSPA router too!

With a EVDO/HSPA air card from Verizon, Sprint, Alltel, AT&T etc. plugged into your computer,along with the Alfa adapter, you can share the connection with multiple computers wirelessly just as if you were using an expensive EVDO/HSPA router.
You can configure all the same security, and with the superior range this has it will put other 80211.G wireless routers to shame. With the RP-SMA antenna port there is an extensive selection of powerful directional and omni-directional antennas you can add. It is a brilliant product made even better by its ability to be an Access Point. [...]

I should have bought a stronger one

But for where I am, in the Desert for the summer, in buildings that are separated by concrete block, I should have bought something a little stronger. It has gotten me closer to signals that I was and I appreciate it.

excellent for security auditing.
(5 out of 5) by Evan Richardson on Oct 18, 2009 (Santa Clara, CA USA)I do network penetration testing both for work, and as a side job, and I will tell you that this wireless adapter can pick up dozens of networks that my laptop couldn't on it's own. Combined with the fact that it supports packet injection and monitoring, and it makes for an inexpensive network monitoring tool. The only negitive thing I have to say about this, is that it makes little noises, kinda like squeaking sounds, probably due to the power its generating.
Side Note: I love how the description of the product says for "War Driving" when that is illegal. Surprised Amazon doesn't list "Stealing other peoples wifi" as well.
