Excellent Value

(5 out of 5) by hdtravel on Dec 22, 2007 (USA)
I purchased this microscope for myself for Christmas. ( adult purchase ). It works great and opens up the fascinating world of tiny organisms to both adults and children. The build quality is excellent and it feels like a real instrument and not a toy. It is a very good value. I put some Rio Grande River water under it and it was amazing what was living in that water ! I highly recommend it for anyone interested in seeing things our naked eye cannot.

Do Not Purchase

(1 out of 5) by Bernd R. Simon on Dec 26, 2007 (Philadelphia)
This microscope has neither a built in light, nor any optional magnification options. It is therefore very difficult for any child to use. Magnification is fixed and depnding on what the child is attempting to see this magnification is likely to be too high (for larger specimens) or too small for very small specimens.
I suggest that both a light and a choice of magnification are absolutely essential. This microscope has neither.

Great!

(5 out of 5) by S. Mazer on May 30, 2008
I bought this microscope for my 11 year old daughter and she absolutely loves it. Its got a very lightweight design and is easy to carry around. Even with only a mirror as a light source, it still has great lighting (you either need to be viewing in a very well-lit room or in a sunny area.) This microscope is good for anybody looking for a cool new "toy." Great for all ages.

Good microscope for beginners

(4 out of 5) by A. K. Ayabe on Jan 18, 2008
For the price, it's a great deal. It's made of glass and metal. It's no cheap plastic, so it has some weight to it. Only thing I wish it came with was light. When viewing in the microscope, the object is quite dark. You either need a really well-lit room to view under your microscope, or a flashlight to see the slide. But overall, it's a good microscope.

Well worth the money! Very, very cool.

I bought this Microscope for the 11 year old science freak in my house. He loves it. It was all he wanted for Christmas, he asked for a good quality Microscope. I did a lot of research, and decided that this one seemed to be of a higher educational grade (than other brands which seemed to be more like a toy). This is high quality, not a cheap toy.

He had the biggest smile on his face when he woke up this morning and he got right down to buisness. It comes with 5 prepared slides which are of good quality, and are packaged nicely in a small plastic box. He then took the blank slides I also purchased, and created his own slides of tap water, saliva, and blood (using one of my diabetic sons unused lancets). I even played around and the clarity is nice, the light is adjustable using different angles of the mirror.

It is a heavy duty Microscope that I know will see him through for many curious years.

Taking into consideration that I bought it on sale for 39.99, what a steal! You can't go wrong with this model.
