A Steal At This Price Point

(5 out of 5) by NovAKs47 on Sep 10, 2007 (San Jose, CA)
I've owned multiple 2.1 pc speaker sets in the past, and none of them were all the great to me. Especially in the bass accuracy department. Most sets at this price point lose somewhere in their frequency response. Either it's the midrange, the highs, or more commonly, boomy, over-exagerrated bass/mid-bass. If that's how you like your bass, avoid these. This is the first set(again, for the price) that I've heard that actually has audible mid-bass, and decent, non-boomy hollow sounding bass. The sats are superb as well. They don't look like they'd be all that great sounding, but they are! Clean highs, near-flawless midrange, and they blend VERY well with the sub. Few 2.1 systems seem to be able to even do that correctly. And yes, they go plenty loud, more than loud enough to annoy neighbors if your're in an apartment. The volume control pod is also very nice. It has a very long, smooth sweep, and the line-in and headphone jacks are a VERY nice touch. It also has a built in mic, which I have yet to test. These handily beat out any of the 2.1 systems from Creative, Klipsch, or Logitech. If you want that sub-par movie theatre sound, look elsewhere. If you want clean, fairly accurate sound, don't hesitate to jump on these.

Unbearable wireless interference

(1 out of 5) by Raul Crespo on Jan 17, 2008 (USA and Venezuela)
Although the sound quality is excellent, the speakers go crazy as soon as a cell phone rings within a 20 ft radius. They make a horrible sound that is unbearable to listen to and destroys any pleasure that could be enjoyed by the speakers... I returned this item

Watch out for wireless!

(3 out of 5) by J. Foster on Dec 17, 2008 (Deeeeetroit, Michigan)
I loved this unit. Sleek, loud, great sound, and the separate control unit for volume, mic, and treble is very innovative. Unfortunately, as another reviewer stated, the control unit picks up wireless interference. It took me two units to figure this out. At first I thought it was a short in the wires, because the static changed and sometimes disappeared as I moved the control unit around. But when the 2nd unit did the exact same thing, I started shutting down devices in my office until I got to the wireless router. Bam - immediately the static stopped. Makes sense now; it explains why the static changed as I moved the control unit - it is actually picking up interference from the wireless.

Unfortunately, the static and clicking is so loud I have to return this one as well.

So, this gets a 4, maybe a 5 if you don't have wireless by your PC. But if you do, then it gets a 1. So I averaged the score to 3.

Great Speakers

(5 out of 5) by P. Nelson on Apr 25, 2008 (Oregon)
These speakers put out clear, rich sound, highs, lows and mids.
Highly recommended. I bought them to play our MP3 player and
portable CD player. They replace a bookshelf music system that
crapped out. I could have spent over $100 for a new system,
but for our purposes these work fine. I saved money and have
better sound than we had.

Altec Speakers

(5 out of 5) by Yaya on Feb 13, 2008 (Los Angeles, CA)
I bought these speakers as a gift for my son who's 21 (for his computer). Well, he ended using them when he's mixing/putting music together for his side job as a DJ. Let me just say we never expected them to sound good AND AT A GREAT PRICE. Love them - Getting some for myself!.
