Simple and effective

(4 out of 5) by R. Kelly on Jun 23, 2008
I'm very pleased with the Xpad. I ordered this because my Lenovo X61t gets extremely hot, especially when playing games or using graphics-intensive programs. I primarily use my notebook away from a desk or table, so it's either on my lap or being held.

This is hands down the best *lap* notebook cooler I've seen so far. Even after several hours of use, I had no heat from the computer on the underside of the xpad. The underside of the xpad is covered with a slightly rough fabric that works comfortably on clothes or bare skin.

Pros:
* no moving parts, so nothing to mysteriously break in a few weeks
* works on lap or table
* very light
* fits in many laptop bags
* design accommodates a wide variety of laptop sizes, intake, and fan configurations
* stiff design won't block air intakes on bottom of laptop

Cons:
* plastic case is slightly deeper than the foam pad; could dig into bare skin, depending on position of of pad.

A Good Solution for Keeping Your Lap Cool

(4 out of 5) by Michael J. Descy on May 22, 2008 (Freehold, NJ)
I don't think it's as simple as it should be to buy a product to keep my MacBook from burning my lap when I use it on the couch. There are a lot of products with fans and USB hubs and lights and all manner of doohickeys--all of which seem too complicated. Other products are rather simple, but are little better than using a book or a small piece of wood, in that the laptop's heat eventually makes them hot, too. I found that the xPad, with its simple X design on top, keeps most of the laptop out of contact with the bottom of the pad, and hence, keeps my lap pretty cool. The laptop does not slip off the top of it (a big plus). On the downside, the edges of the base are, as many reviewers said, not rounded, so they can dig into you. I did not find that it was uncomfortable, however.

Cool Running

(5 out of 5) by pfred4peace on Feb 24, 2008 (NYC/CT USA)
Actually cooler running. Pad works perfectly as described. Non-slip corner pads, even when using at an angle. Computer is much cooler than when left on a flat surface. It is cooler, not cool, so it will still heat a bit, but not nearly as hot as without this pad. I often use my laptop while in bed watching tv, so even while lying, this pad is perfect.

KEEPS THINGS COOL - BUT NOT FOR LONG

(2 out of 5) by Tea Clipper on Sep 23, 2007 (Baffin Bay)
This laptop heat shield does work - for a while. However, if you plan on using your laptop for more than say 45 minutes then this product will not adequately insulate you from the increasing heat of your machine. I even used 2 pads stacked on top of each other and the majority of heat still transferred. I wish the laptop makers could find a way to make their machines run cooler.

Xpad (Non-slip Laptop Cooler & Heatshield)

(5 out of 5) by E. Underwood on Jun 19, 2007 (Georgia, USA)
This product is awesome! It's lightweight and does the job! It keeps my lap cool and also keeps the laptop, itself, cooler. One of the things that attracted me to this item, is that unlike many others, this one does not use any electricity! Many similar items needed to be powered by a usb connection. This one is a very impressive design! No power needed... and works great!!
