Very satisfied with the LaCie D2 SATA II drive

I am very satisfied with my newly acquired LaCie D2 SATA 3 Gbit 320 drive. It is not a PnP (plug and play) device. It requires some initial setup procedures. The drive has to be initialized, partitioned (if needed), and formatted. Disk management in Windows XP provides all of these functions. The instructions on the CD are very good on setting up your drive especially if you want to make it bootable. These instructions should be read carefully, preferably before purchasing the device to be sure your computer will support all of the drive requirements.

I have set up my computer to be dual bootable with XP on the normal internal C: drive, and Windows Vista on the external LaCie drive. I have partitioned the LaCie into 2 partitions. One partition contains the Vista OS. The Windows Vista OS functions very well on the external hard drive.

The drive is very quiet and barely warm to the touch. It does not have a fan. It has a very short cable (3 ft.) to connect to your computer.

I have only had this drive for about 2 weeks. So far eveything works very well.
