Sound is great

Easy to install, I had the wires in my ceiling from when the house was built. Sound is fantastic, adds a lot to movies.

Nice Sound, fast shipping!

This pair of ceiling speakers has good sound quality, are very easy to install, and they were shipped in just 2 days since I placed my order eventhough it was free.

How many speakers in a box??

(4 out of 5) by Eugene I. Kim on Nov 5, 2009 (Phoenix, AZ)
I've never ordered in-ceiling speakers before, so naturally, I go by the descriptions available on Amazon when I purchase these things.
Currently, no where in the description or in the reviews it says that there are TWO speakers per order/box.
So now instead of two speakers, I have four delivered to me because there are two per box ordered.
I'm glad that I don't have to spend as much as I had originally thought, but not as happy about paying for return shipping.

good sound but can be overdriven

(4 out of 5) by Phillip Marsh on Nov 10, 2009 (Texas)
I install whatever people want though if they ask my recommendation it would not be Yamaha speakers for either value or performance. For in-ceiling speakers I recommend people get the best they can afford even if it is a stretch as this is not something you want to replace a year later. Ceiling speakers depend heavily on an efficient enclosure behind the speaker for performance and yet there is limited space for a backer box in a ceiling or wall so whatever is put in is going to be a compromise.

A separate subwoofer helps the overall sound from these speakers immensely even if it is driven off the same amp. It is not realistic to expect great bass from an in-ceiling speaker. Good idea to have a separate gain control for these speakers so they are not over-driven when pumping up the bass.

These mounted quite easily and making the holes is never a problem since we discovered the Hole Pro adjustable hole cutters with their high speed steel (for tongue and groove ceilings) and tungsten carbide (for sheetrock and plaster) blades. We set the depth for 3/4" and don't need to worry about cutting wiring or a pipe hidden behind the drywall. They are really good for plaster with its double layers that crack easily and the cracks are very expensive to repair and then their is the need to repaint the ceiling. The shield collect all the dust and hold the piece cut from the ceiling until we are back down the ladder. We don't even use drop cloths or have to move furniture since we started using the Hole Pro hole cutters.

Hole Pro X-305 Kit 1-7/8" to 12" infinitely adjustable twin blade Tungsten Carbide Hole Saw Cutter 6" 7" 8" 9" 10" 11" 12" holes in wood drywall plaster fiberglass OSB cement board- Use ΒΌ torque of hole saws and cut twice as fast

Oddly enough 8 inch in-ceiling speaker can need a cutout as large as 11-1/2 inches so we like that the X-305 Hole Pro hole cutter can go from 2" all the way to 12" and cut whatever size hole we need.
