Excellent Multimedia Player

May 25, 2007 - By Don Marco (Cambridge, MA)

This is an excellent all-in-one multimedia player for the price. Here are what I like and I don't.

[Good]
1. Convenient five-dvd player (you can put 5 dvds inside.)
2. Xvid & WMV (you can play all your avi & wmv files)
3. Usb hosting (you can plug in your usb-hard drive or pmp and play your files.)
4. HDMI input (only 1, unfortunately)
5. FM-tuner is a bonus (your favorite station coming out from 5+1 speakers!)
6. extension cord for Ipod or other audio players
7. Sound from 5+1 speakers is really good and loud.
8. User interface is nice. You can change the background image with screen capture.

[Minus]
1. wires .. wires .. (I know this unit is not a wireless, but I wish it were. One thing I notice is that this unit has an option for a wireless connection for 2 rear speakers.)
2. speaker shape. They look okay, but to me a little rough.

Overall, I enjoy all the bells and whistles on this unit. It was a really successful and satisfying purchase.

* Updated: It didn't have a zone-free dvd playback feature. I removed it from [Good] list. I am really sorry about this wrong information. At the time, I happened to play a foreign movie released for US market and I mistook it. Again, my sincere apologies to those who bought this player for that reason due to my review. However, my wife and I are still happy with this player and enjoying it.

Great at everything BUT....

Jul 17, 2007 - By Craig A. Lee (Miami)

This is a revised review which I would give this system 4.5/5. Previosly I stated that it would not play backup movies, but it turns out that my software need it an update, and now they work perfectly. The only drawback to this system in the lack of inputs. YOu might have to do like I did and buy a 3 input HDTV/optical switch to be able to use more that one optical input source. I highly recommend buying the wireless module for the rear surround speakers.

Great system for the price!

Dec 2, 2007 - By Jack (New York, NY)

I bought this system recently and think this is a great system to have for the price range. I did extensive research and found that through all of the reviews here and elsewhere and the amount of extras you get, I made a great choice. The system looks good, in my opinion, has all of the bells and whistles of more expensive systems (HDMI, FM tuner, wireless capability, etc) and sounds great. Connecting this system couldn't have been easier. I connected the HDMI cable from the system to my Samsung LCD TV, a Toslink cable from my HD cable modem to the system and the rest is history. There were two draw backs (and the reasons I didn't give it 5 stars). One is the instructions and its short explanations for all of its options. I'm a novice when it comes to audio systems and the instructions can be confusing in identifying which function is relevant to whatever listening situation. I have to do research to get the full benefit of some of the features. For a system in this price range, I would think it would be more "user friendly" in the instructions department. The other is the delays related to loading the CD/DVD's and its start up. But that's okay as all of the other features far outweigh this one drawback.

It's pretty good

Jul 22, 2007 - By Nicholas P. Brena

Although the ability to fine tune each and every aspect of your sound system is not present in this system, it still has good quality audio and video out of the box. The delay on loading data from discs is somewhat of a nuisance, it takes nearly 20 seconds from switching to a CD to having it start playing. Overall, it is a good system and worth the money.

As for what that other customer said about it not playing backed-up DVDs, I'm not exactly sure what he was talking about seeing as all of my backups have played fine.

2nd Time Around

Jul 26, 2007 - By Ryan Davis (Fleming Island (Jacksonville), FL, USA)

This is the second Samsung all-in-one system we have owned. Very clean look and full sound for the price. The new I-pod cable is nice and holds the same sound quality. Now I just have to get the wireless rear speaker module.
