Excellent picture.

(5 out of 5) by M. Ferrara on Oct 19, 2007 (Waltham, MA United States)
Having just installed this television in my too-small apartment, I write to tell you how impressed I am with the picture quality from this Philips television.

The black finish on the frame of this set is beautiful. It comes with a special cloth to clean it with, which makes me nervous (will it scratch if I just wipe it down?). The picture quality is sharp, bright, and in all ways exceeds my expectations. I'm in the process right now of swapping out cords from my various devices to take full advantage of what 1080p is. I can't see anything in this set that would give me pause.

Great purchase, great price, and I couldn't be happier.

Awesome HDTV!

(5 out of 5) by Robert F. on Feb 17, 2008 (Boston MA)
Hi!
I purchased this HDTV from BJ's in MA. I research for about six months and finally concluded this HDTV had everything I was looking for and the price was cheaper than any place I had checked. It is packed with options for enhancing your picture quality. I feel as though I am in the movies or shows. The sound is wonderful as well. I also purchased a Philips surround sound thearter system that rocks the house, and the house next door! :)

I advice you to watch the HDTV's and take this one into consideration! I know BJ's is not in every state, so try Costco, I think they have it for a great price as well. I also purchased a pair of Philips surround sound ear phones, just like the ones for ipod's...They are great!

Good Luck, and thanks Philips!

HDMI connection issue with satellite HD boxes

(3 out of 5) by Music Lover on Nov 27, 2007
The HDMI connection issue isn't limited to DirectTV receivers. I just got the top of the line Dish Network HD receiver and I get the same "unsupported video format" problem and the cyclical picture drops (.5 second picture then black screen - repeats over and over). I reported this to Philips tech support and they said to use the component video connections. I told the guy I already am, that is how I can see any kind of picture at all... just wanted them to be aware this is more widespread problem than they think (their FAQ's page for this TV indicates it is for a particular DirectTV receiver - not the case).

Other than that, I like the TV a lot - very good picture, sound quality in stereo mode is good (I didn't care for the surround sound option).

Great HD LCD TV!

(5 out of 5) by N. Merrill on Aug 14, 2008 (Vermont, USA)
This is my second HD LCD TV and it is great! It has excellent colors, blacks and set design.
The speakers are rather weak, but I am comparing that to my HUGE sound system.
The remote is long, but has good buttons.
The set looks beautiful, except for the cheap looking shiny, plastic support on the base. Luckily it is mostly hidden in the shadow.
The set up menus are thorough but relatively easy to use.
Lately, while watching the Olympics in HD, I have noticed a bit of choppy motion blur. The high speed action gets a bit pixelly. But, with most movies and HD shows, I have not noticed it. The picture is smooth and crisp with great color.

This is probably not the best TV in the world, but I can't tell. And for the price, it is perfect!

buy it.

This is my second HDTV. I bought a Vizio 32" and I love it, great set. I moved into a new house and just needed a bigger screen for the Great Room. I looked around for two weeks, comparing prices v. features and quality of picture. I found this set at Target for just over a thousand. It beat out the LG equivilant at Circuit City with ease. Set it up, wow. This is the finest television I have ever owned, and would take it over the Sony Bravia anyday. Of course, if the Bravia came down in price I might reconsider that statement. Anyways, the Phillips 42" LCD 1080p is amazing. Haven't had time to customize my settings, but the factory presets are enough to spure this review.
