great sound from an inexpensive unit

(4 out of 5) by C. Picou on Mar 9, 2009 (Orange, TX USA)
This has great sound; much better than I expected from such an inexpensive unit. the cd's play great; the am/fm stereo doesn't work so well, I can't pick up the smaller stations I normally listen to but I think that is our building's metal roof, not the stereo. (The metal roof interferes with cell phone reception, too.) I haven't tried the cassette player yet; haven't dug out any from the storage to play!

Bad Product

(1 out of 5) by K. Matthews on Feb 6, 2009 (Issaquah, WA USA)
I would not recommend purchasing this product.

We purchased the first radio from Amazon and after following all directions in the manual, could not get any power response at all either with plug in power or by using batteries. We returned the product and Amazon replaced it with another. The volume control in the replacement radio would only respond to "louder volume" and we could not lower volume either manually or with the remote. We returned the product and requested a refund. We subsequently purchased another brand radio from another source and are quite happy with it.

the only reason we give this even a "one star" is that Amazon was very responsive in both exchanges and refunds of costs.

Limited portable cd/tape player

(2 out of 5) by Hope Powers on Feb 6, 2009
I teach exercise classes and have to bring a machine to different locations. I have been teaching for 27 years, and I sorely miss the old players that lasted almost a decade! In the last five years, I have purchased cheap and expensive models. My needs include good sound, ease of carrying as well as technical aspects such as easy search functions and the ability to hold the pause button as long as I need it to teach a dance routine. I also like a tape player as a backup, in case my cd scratches. This machine might be fine if you just want to "play music." However, if you press the pause on the cd player for any length of time, the cd will not start again. There is no "stop" button on the cd player, so you actually have to turn off the machine, turn it on, let if "find" the cd and THEN put it back to the correct track. When I am teaching a class, trying to keep students' heart rates up at a fitness level, this kind of interuption is devastating to the workout. Second, the buttons are all over the place. Changing machines as frequently as I have changed them recently, I find these buttons counterintuitive. I also have a hard time reading them, but that is a function of my age. Third, when I teach two classes in a row, the volume frequently is different in the second class without my moving anything on the machine. One final problem, the hinge on the tape door is not very secure, and frequently opens as I take it from my car.

All of this said, once we are into the session and I don't have to "fiddle" with the machine, it runs pretty well, though the volume is not necessarily consistent. Would I purchase it again? No. But I do like a portable player with cd function, tape function and has a remote.
