For the money this is a good system--not great, not lousy, just good. The sound quality is just not as good as some other systems I've used. My primary system is an Onkyo tuner/amp and Bose speakers--this Philips system just doesn't compare. It was purchased for a bedroom though and it's fine for that. For my taste there is too much bass which sounds "muffled" and the mid-range and highs are flat. You can do some minor tweaking (only in the DVD mode) of individual speaker volume and some pre-sets (movie, rock, etc.) but none of the adjustments really get to the sound quality I'm looking for. There is no treble, base, balance, equalizer, etc. adjustability. You can't control the Ipod with the remote, volume included. The speaker plugs on the back of the unit are proprietary, so you have to cut and splice the wires if you need to extend the range of the speakers or want to use other speakers. On the positive side--this unit will entertain you with a wide variety of mediums at a price that's really hard to beat. I would recommend this product as long as your expectations are not too high. You'll have to spend a lot more money to get something with better sound and features.

Love it
Good deal here at Amazon for this home theater system. I haven't tried the DVD upscaler since it's hooked up to a standard def TV but the video quality is very good compared to our last DVD player. I really haven't had any issues with it so far and I've been having one for almost two onths already. The audio is great but could use some tweaking to bring up the voice a bit. I really love the feature of just adding AVI files into a jump drive and playing them on TV without having to burn and waste VCD's. Set up was very easy sice you just had to plug the same colored wire with the port. I'd say anyone could have this system up and running in less than 30 for those who haven't worked with with electonics. For me it has enough connection in the back but I'm not sure about some other people thinking of hooking up everything to their system. It really only has one RCA video out with audio including and HDMI port and two other RCA audio innlets. I think I'm going to be having this product for a few years to come.
Well worth the money
this system sounds great for the money you cant beat it. USB port in front you can play MPEG movies from thumb drive view JPEGS. all of the speakers and wires are color coded along with the connectors on the rear of the unit, anyone can wire this up with ease. i think it plays mp3's also DVD + & - R's among other things. waiting for $124.99 sale again to buy another
Great system for the non-professional
I bought this system for my dad for father's day. I had no problems setting it up. Very easy and color cordinated. I did have a bit of an issue with the configuration setup because my dad inherited a projection screen TV so it was a difficult to setup with the length of wires fixed. So what I did was switch the back speakers with the front speakers because they were longer (kind of reverse from normal TV setups and it worked fine). That is the only drawback was that the wires were hardwired into the backs of the speakers, so there was a fixed length. I knew this before I purchased it and was fine with it. But for the professionals or people that are really into their entertainment systems, they probably want to have their own wire (upgrades) and length to do what they want with it. But for what we need it for, it was fine and the sound was incredible.
