Product not reconditioned, service BAD, do not buy fromTomtom

(1 out of 5) by Thomas Beretvas on May 10, 2007 (Draper Utah)
Received Tomtom300 ("refurbished") in March. Could not enter our home address (I had lived here for 9 years). Tried to download refresh from website. Result, device dead. Told to reset with pin, not doable. Shipped it back to Amazon. Amazon shipped us replacement while we were abroad. (30 day return policy expired). On return, tried new device, our home still does not exist in device. Could not figure out how to enter addresses. Called Tomtom service (4 times for a variety of reasons, spending 5 hours on this), talked to 4 different people, got 4 different explanations. 1. Send us a bad map report (as if that helped). 2. Use satellite location instead of address (that kind of worked). 3. Back up old map which prevents new map from functioning. (Actually I managed to download new application, NOT new map, but I did not know this) 4. Trying to navigate to downtown totally bad directions, but serviceman on his TomTom could do it. 5. Had to back up restore device several times, to no avail. 6. BUY !!!! new map for $99. (This probably is the correct answer, but why try spending HOURS to get there) And after all this, to spend more money?

Bottom line:
First Product was defective, second was unusable as it came.
AMAZON should not have sold product as reconditioned, it is not, has obsolete map with nonexistent streets and bad directions.
Tomtom's service people mostly do not know what they are talking about, they do not care to make customer happy.
I would recommend not to buy this product or other products from this company in the future

Don't Regret it for a MINUTE

I was hesitant to buy one of these GPS units after reading all the negative reviews here. But after reading several positive reviews on other sites, I decided to give it a try.

I ordered mine from Amazon at a great price and with free shipping. This after finding two OLDER TomTom Go 300's (older maps and inferior windshield suction cup) at two different pawn shops - for MORE $$$ than Amazon was offering them, WITH a warranty.

I got mine for trips to visit my parents who recently moved out of state.

Right out of the box the TomTom Go led me straight to their home, avoiding lots of frustration.

We used the TomTom 300 to make our way to several tourist destinations and restaurants. Normally the anxiety of getting out on highways we were unfamiliar with would have kept us from straying too far from my folk's new home. But this little gadget was great! We put in the address where we wanted to go and it took us there flawlessly. When it was time to return, we simply asked the TomTom to take us back to their house. It really was that simple.

My parents were so impressed they literally had me sign on to Amazon that night and order them each one. My dad is 74 and very afraid to venture to far from home since he hasn't learned the streets yet in his new community.

This is a life saver.

For $200 you get the belss and whistles you need. Why pay up to $600 for features you will never use.

Buy with confidence. It has a warranty folks!

A good bargin for Tomtom

(5 out of 5) by T. Hsiung on Jun 12, 2007 (New York, NY)
I was initially relunctant to buy the tomtom because the reviewers had said the product might be defective. I had a coworker who bought one of the refurbished tomtom from amazon and he had no problem with it. So I decided to give it a shot as well.

The Tomtom arrived next morning and it work fine right out of the box. Everything is nicely packaged and it is road tested before shipping out by tomtom. I just updated the software since there is an updated version available, but everything is ready to go.

The tomtom functioned very well. I was very satisfied with the product. Normally tomtom goes up to $500 or more for brand new item, it is a steal IMOP even if its a refurbished tomtom.

very happy

I bought the tom tom because of the price and what it could do. It works great immidiately. I called their help desk just to walk me through setup, but I probably didn't need to. I just didn't realize that I don't get reception indoors. My one caveat is that me dad had the tom tom one, which was less expensive, smaller to hold and I haven't seen anything that the 300 does that the one can't do.
