Does hold anywhere near 4GB

(1 out of 5) by D. Mitchell on Aug 13, 2008 (Earth)
I have the iAudio U3 2GB player. I love it. So I bought the 4G version.

The 4GB does not hold as much as the 2GB does. On the 4GB, there is over 2GB in 571 hidden files that can't be seen, accessed, deleted. That leave about 1.8GB for my use. As I said, I can get more on my 2GB unit.

4,057,956,352 bytes total disk space.
16,384 bytes in 1 hidden files.
2,490,368 bytes in 152 folders.
2,189,770,752 bytes in 521 files.
1,865,662,464 bytes available on disk.

16,384 bytes in each allocation unit.
247,678 total allocation units on disk.
113,871 allocation units available on disk.

I have tried getting ahold of the iAudio folks, but haven't received any reply. If I don't get this fixed in the next day or two, I will be returning it.

Really nice portable flash player

Gym? Lawn mowing? Walking the dog? Jogging? This is a fantastic choice. I use it with Yuin PK3 earbuds and the sound quality is amazing. Plenty of volume for outdoors, punchy and great bass to boot. The joystick is simple to use without looking. Wish it came with more than 4gb. Very underrated.

Oy Vey!

(1 out of 5) by Scott I. Pollock on Mar 29, 2008
Why is it so freaking hard to find an mp3 player that actually sounds good? I mean, don't most of us use them primarily for music? This unit sounds okay, better than a number of others I've tried. Problem is, IT'S ALWAYS BREAKING DOWN!!! So, this is the second time I'm sending mine back, and I've only had it three months. It's been gone as much as I've had it! One day it's working and all is well, and the next it's malfunctioning. Heck, I don't even take the thing out of my house! Jeez!! Why can't anyone put together an mp3 player that sound great, and functions as well? Must be tough... I've had two, and this is what happens; you connect it to the computer in MTP mode (to transfer subscription music), and it won't move past the starting screen. It works fine in UMS. So, if you're going to be transfering files from Windows Media or something, you should be fine. This whole market; mp3 players, subscription music... great idea, but it's just not together yet. I wish I could get my little Sansa m-250 to hold subscription music more than one day, as it's been my favorite of about ten different ones!!! Best of luck...

Great little device

Small enough to go anywhere, acceptable battery (app. 17 h under real life conditions) and really nice sound.

I'll keep it forever - or at least till it's broken!

Great Player

(4 out of 5) by J. Schaaf on Mar 1, 2008 (Berkeley, CA United States)
I bought this audio player because I use Linux and I've loaded my music library in the ogg vorbis format, and the players from Cowon happen to support that format out of the box.

I haven't had this player for too long but what I've seen so far is great. The audio playback quality is excellent. I can upload songs to it easily from Rhythmbox and it keeps track of things pretty intuitively.

I normally keep it on shuffle for the entire library. I did find it a little difficult to remember how to navigate by folders (so I could just listen to one album) but I probably wouldn't have had such trouble if I had actually read any of the manual on it. That is really my only problem with the player at this point. Definitely worth purchasing.
