This is an actual sh-s183l. However, its description is so vague. It easily makes buyers thought it is just a bunch of dvdrw black bezel. I only pulled the trigger when I got confirmation from customer service that this is an actual samsung dvd burner.

I bought it when it was $39.99 included shipping (no tax), so it is very good value comparing with newegg.

It is bulk, oem, but amazon includes sata cable, power adapter and software (nero). It is a surprised bonus.

About quality, I only burned 2 dvd so far. I am not interesting in scanning, so I don't give comment on this aspect. I just say, it works well. If you need more insight scanning and testing, you may look into enthusiastic websites such as cdfreaks for more info.

I bought this drive to replace my eide plextor dvd burner. This drive is quieter, and my system is more stable since everything is running off of the sata controller now. I don't keep track of my burns, but I've done many with only a few failed burns. I'm using nero premium 7 and sony dvd-r disks. It's a good price for a great burner. I'd recomend this over any eide burner.
