BX1021 Repair and Replacement Parts Help

Apr 20, 2008 - By bob v (usa)

Replacement parts for the BX1021 made by Altec Lansing.

My BX1021 developed a real bad hum in the bass speaker
with no input connected.

The other two speakers worked fine when connected.

How do you fix this problem as I have?

NOTE: You must have electronic repair skills or stop reading.

OK, The BX1021 has 4 IC's inside.

3 are IC power output amps that drive the speakers, and
the last is a 8 Pin op amp used for the bass amp circuit.

I could not find replacement parts from all internet sources.

IE: cross reference and such.

So I made 2 good choices from other part manufactures.

The power output amps used are: UTC2030, Replace with TDA2030A.

The Op Amp used is: UTC4558, Replace with NTE928M.

I first replaced the UTC2030 with a TDA2030A, it did not fix the problem.

I left that part in and replaced the UTC4558 with a NTE928M.

BINGO!!! The Amp Lives Again.

So, The problem with my BX1021 was a bad UTC4558 chip.

However, If your output chip goes bad now you have
a part number to replace it with.

Hope this info is usefull, It worked for me.

I do love my BX1021, It Rocks in Sound and Power!!!

Enjoy,

Bob V...............

PC Speakers

These speakers are a lot better than I thought for the price. Sound is great!

Nice and simple but SQ not so great.

The good:
1) Having the volume control built into the subwoofer allows for less cords running between the speakers and the sub box. Not having a volume control on the speakers themselves could be a burden for some, but for my uses it is preferred.
2) The speakers connect with regular speaker wire, not RCAs. This was a very pleasant surprise. It's easy to extend the range of placement of the speakers with regular speaker wire.
3) They seem well built. The subwoofer box feels solid.

The bad:
1) The sound quality is decent. The sound from the little speakers can be really tinny. The subwoofer chokes on some low bass lines. For the price it's pretty good, but you could probably find better.
2) There is no easy way to mount the speakers to a wall. Not a big deal but I wish they had a hole in the back so I could hang them on a nail.
3) The back of the subwoofer box gets pretty warm, even with the bass turned only half way up. Not hot enough to worry about but it does happen.

I don't love it but I don't hate it. It fits my needs, costs little, and works well. If you don't mind the volume control on the subwoofer, these speakers are a good buy. They could be better but they could cost a lot more too.

Good

If you unscrew the back of the speakers, you can mount them on a wall, by drilling into the wall (or using brackets)with the holes on the speaker, usually used to hold on the back. The sound quality is good, and I like that there is no RCA cable involved.

great little speakers

Feb 13, 2008 - By Lonnie J. Fluty Jr. (Camp Pendleton, CA)

the best money i spent on my computer. for the price im satesfied.. hell if they cost $50 its worth it. i listen to hip hop and some rock and they sound great to me.. i upgrade ram and video cards.. but this is the difference i can actually notice.

the only thing i dont like about the speakers is that the blue light is BRIGHT... i had these in my barracks room and the little blue light fill the room with the lights out...

i would buy another set.. these are going strong over a year now
