Picture quality is not everything!
Once you get a picture from the HD-XA2 it is much better than my Pioneer HDMI DVD player for the same normal DVD. But this product was obviously NOT usability tested before it was marketed.
1) It is the noisiest piece of audio equipment that I ever had because of the fan.
2) The unit takes incredibly long to boot up even from standby. Every computer is ten times faster. It seems to take anywhere from 1 to 3 minutes to even respond to any button.
3) It takes 30-60 seconds to load a normal DVD .
4) It takes up to three minutes to load a HD-DVD. Patience is a virtue!
5) I had one defective HD-DVD and I was unable to get it out of the drawer because the unit would not respond to any buttons.
6) I was exepcting trouble once I saw that the unit software can be downloaded from the internet. With all these troubles I thought that it might make sense. If you think that I managed to actually connect the unit to the Internet you are mistaken.
7) I am assuming that there might be problem with the drive that produces a lot of errors and that slows down everything.
I am a computer expert so this I assure you that these are not handling problems. I have returned the product.

It was used so I sent it back.
Didn't I review this already? Mine came in its own box (not double boxed) and was used, so I sent it back. Seller "doesn't know" how this could have happened, and has to "talk to the warehouse."

hd dvd player
it is hard to give it a review since I have nothing to compare it to but hd tv .the right thing to do is compare it to blue ray.

DO NOT BUY
Do not buy any Toshiba HD DVD players. Press releases state that they are no longer in the HD DVD business. They have quit making them.

it is way too expensive
This is way to expensive, I bought the Hd dvd kit for my Elite 360, I will BEET anyof you who wrote me a bad review, to check out the differinces, you wont find any i am sure of that, And now that i also got a BLU RAY player. For only 299 oh it is the PS3 :). Why buy this thing for that price, it is way to expensive...when you can get a hd dvd and a blu ray player with a hdtv hdmi 3 way to hook it all together for way under that price. i mean come on my Mitsubishi HDTV 1080p was that expenive.
