Great phone with minor irritations

(4 out of 5) by Lowell J. Gibson on Aug 15, 2007 (Bahamas)
I have had this phone for about a month now and I am very pleased with some of the great features, e.g. transfer, ringtones, copying names to selected handsets, range, no interference with appliences or wireless network, etc.) But there are a couple things that can be improved upon. The "irritations" include showing the # of missed calls even though the call(S) was (were) answered, and also, there is no backlight.

I find the range to be very good on this model because I live in a good size house (2 levels) and I am able to use the phone in every room (except the garage and a particular spot on the upper level). The reason this is good is because no other phone was able to do this (900 mhz, 5.8ghz, 2.4ghz) because my home has steel bar joists which apparently interefere with the radio frequencies, so I was very pleased with the range of this phone. The large, well spaced keys are also a plus, but backlight would have been nice

One more thing, when it comes to range try moving the base around and keep it away from appliences (as is suggested in the manuals), this is what I did to get the optimum results.

I hope this helped.

Very Satisfied!

(5 out of 5) by R. Sattler on Aug 6, 2007 (Beaverton, OR USA)
I very satisfied with this phone! I replaced my older Motorola cordless 2.4GHz set with these. The only feature I miss from the Motorola's are the ability to set a unique ringtone for numbers listed in the phonebook (The Motorola could ring a unique ringtone for entries found in the phonebook - a nice feature to know that someone you know is calling without having to look at the handset).

This phone uses newer (and readily available) NiMH AAA batteries - no more hunting for proprietary battery replacements down the road. As advertised, the phones get great battery life out of each charge.

Talking on the phone is like being directly connected to a landline - very clear, no static or other annoying issues with other wireless electronic devices in the house.

The phonebook is easy to setup and use. The answering machine is very simple to operate, and you don't have to setup a greeting if you don't want to, as it comes with a preprogrammed greeting out of the box. Transferring phonebook entries to the other handsets is simple, so you don't have to set them up on each handset. Set a phonebook entry on one and transfer it and others to the other handsets easily - nice feature.

I also like the answering machines call screening feature - the call will be answered and you can listen to the message and caller response LIVE from any handset. Pretty cool. You can also retrieve messages from any handset. The caller ID feature works great, displaying the full caller ID name and number.

Last but not least, the handset has large number buttons - the keypad is easy to read! Most sets have tiny buttons that are hard to read, like most cell phones. These are the perfect size.

Good in part, may be okay, but definitely not perfect

(3 out of 5) by Mike Souter on Nov 7, 2007 (Seattle, WA, USA)
I was looking for a replacement phone system as I was getting tired of dropped wireless every time the phone rang (despite MIMO etc)
After a lot of on-line research the Panasonic seemed to be a good mix of functionality and ease of use. I ordered the 4-pack with a couple of extras to take it up to the limit of 6.
THe phones themsleves look good, are lightweight and have a speakerphone on every handset (essential in this age of interminable wait times during virtually any call to a company or organization), good intercom and call waiting function and easy to program.
Setup was easy - although it would have been even better with the addition of some kind of PC interface to allow central programming of the stored directory - some makes offer this... What is also a bit kludgy is that if you add a number - you have to send it to each individual handset at a time.... My old Sony's used to allow system wide updates..
Where they really fell down was with the reliability of the parts - the AC adaptor for the base unit was plugged in for the 7 hour initial chargeup of the handset - I came back an hour later and found it dead. Nonfunctional. The handset was okay, as was the base unit when I used one of the stand-alone handset power adapters to power it, but the designated adapter (made in China) was completely non-functional. I called Panasonic, and got through (relatively quickly for a change) to their customer support. They asked for a fax of the Amazon order, and said it would be 10 days. They called back that afternoon to say that it will now be 3 weeks as the part is on back order - that leads me to suspect that mine is not the only problem. So I am 'hot swapping' handsets in and out of chargers at this time - which is doable, but a bit disappointing , as I've previously found Panasonic to be reliable....
Otherwise I'm happy with the phones - as long as this is the only problem... ( had them for 1 week now)

pretty good

(4 out of 5) by Mercie on Jun 27, 2007 (Lusby, MD USA)
Ive had this phone for about a month now and it is working perfectly. I give it 4 stars because of a feature I really really liked with my last vtech phone that this phone does not. On this new phone you cannot assign ring tones to callers. I miss this feature particularly for those persons I did not want to talk to. I cant block them from calling but at least I didn't have to waste my time going for the phone and looking at the caller id, I could just listen for the type of ring. Oh well. Otherwise Im totally happy

Very Good Cordless Phone

(4 out of 5) by OP Engr on Jun 8, 2007 (Arizona)
I purchased this unit when it came out. Easy to set up. The handsets were pre-registered, so it worked out of the box. Focused on this design because it has a jack for a headset, and I like to have both hands free. The 1.9 GHz band appears to be interference free. Speaker phone works reasonably well. I would buy this one again! I like the easy to replace NiMh batteries. Not listed as Energy Star, but I suspect that since it runs cooler and has a long battery life that it meets guidelines. Range is twice my old 2.8 GHz phone. Remote functions (dial in) work reasonably well, but you are limited in options.

My specific concerns about this phone. I had the base station lock up and garble incoming messages. I couldn't find this model on the Panasonic support pages, and I am still waiting on a response to my email request for help. I ended up unplugging the base station and waiting a minute. When I powered back up it was working fine. No USB or Bluetooth capability. The sound quality is good, unfortunately my phone line is not, so it picks up additional noise on the line.

General cordless phone comments. I wish this unit had Bluetooth/USB so that I could upload my address book from my computer. Also, I had to go back to the manual several times to get it behaving the way I wanted. It would be so much nicer to program this with a web browser.
