After dealing with DirecTV for 4 days trying to settle an issue with an installer that called at 1 pm on Saturday to report that he did not have the equipment for an install that was scheduled that day from 8-12, I give up. Phone delays are 20 - 30 minutes before you get a human, they will not let you talk to a supervisor, and will do nothing to rectify the situation. I offered to do the install myself - they refused. Communication by email is even worse - they took three days to respond that they could not find my account and made it sound like it was my problem. If you have not yet bought a DirecTV system - don't!
Should be negative stars
I have had directtv for 4 years and have loved every minute until October 9th 2006. That is when I recieved this hunk of junk. If Directtv did not have a monopoly on the NFL I would leave them and never look back. This thing is a TIVO wannabe and DTV should be ashamed for leaving TIVO and stiffing their loyal customers with [...]. In the months that I have had this I have called Direct TV 4 to 5 times a WEEK!!! It is unbelievable. Their excuse for everything is a software update. Which the machine gets basically every week. I have had 10 major issues. My wife and I cannot not watch A full episode of any TV show without this thing freezing, lipsinking, blue screen of death (my wife calls it that) sound shuts off, looking for signal 2?, not recording something it should, recording something and then it is a black screen, and much much more. I run my own company and if I treated my customers with a piece of [...] product they would not use me again. DTV should have kept TIVO and since they didn't I am emailing the NFL with my issues. I HATE THIS MACHINE. Please be very careful!!!!!!!
no stars would be more adequate
Not worth losing all the benefits and features of the TIVO for a few HD channels. I'm returning it and going back to my TIVO...I am now considering changing to cable since I am so upset about this whole issue. They charged me $299.00 for this piece of junk which is worthless to me. I would highly discourage anyone from getting the HD DVR reciever if you have owned the TIVO
BUY ? r u kidding this was FREE still not worth it
Directv Upgraded me from HDTIVO to the this junk for free, after i got it i realized why it was free, as i said its junk. anyone who has the HDtivo receiver will hate this receiver.
I would have returned the receiver in 15 minutes if i had to pay for it.((((((( i am thinking of returning it even it was free ))))))))))))))
ITS VERY slow, the DVR featured are nothing like TIVO, as i was told they were , i don;t get why one channel keeps 90 min in memory while the other one has None that makes NO sense if i want more than 30 min i would just record it.Why the memory clears when you switch between channels, and when i record a program I do not have the option to skip to the end , of jump forward in 15 min intervals. who ever designed this unit has no IDEA what a DVR should do, i am a very upset as i was forced to upgrade so i could get all the new HD channels that they have been advertising.the old receiver would only get the 7 to 10 stations i have had for the past 2 years
Oh i almost forgot you also have to get a HUGE dish , its so big that it has 2 supporting arms on either side so the wind does not move it. all that said you really do not have much choice except they get the message and do a real upgrade in the HDDVR 21 which should be out soon .....
Not worth your while.
I switched from a DTV Tivo to this sad excuse for a piece of equipment. Like the other reviewers it continues to perform in the most sorry of states. Sound lapses, pixel issues and one they haven't mentioned. The thing will record a show just fine, however it will just continue to record on and on after the end of the show. Seems they can't get their machines to work with their guide reliably. The result? You lose some of your recorded shows due to lack of space on your HDD. Pretty annoying especially if you lose something like Heroes or Lost. Nothing but frustration at best is how I would describe it. I'm going to send it back and get a Tivo again. Did anyone mention the lousy program guide? Coming from a DTV Tivo to the DTV guide is horrendous. Navigation is so counter-intuitive and tedious that it is like unpaid labor. I look forward to removing this clunk from the living room.
