Works, but stinks - literally!

(4 out of 5) by Garkman on Nov 22, 2009
I purchased this through CMPLE, and am relatively pleased considering the cost. However, there is one issue that I am quite disappointed in - the product STINKS! Literally, it smells horrible - you know new tire smell?...this is kind of like that, except a different type of plastic odor. I have only had it out a few days, so I am hoping the smell dissipates, but if it doesn't I may actually have to replace it - it's a bit nauseating. One thing - it appears different cables are being sent, as one reviewer said theirs had writing down the length of theirs - mine has no writing on it anywhere (which was a bit upsetting because I wanted to know for certain it was cat5e and not some cat5 cable passed off as cat5e). Like others said, the sheathing is quite cheap/flimsy - but it protects it well enough if you're not running it over anything rough. Please note the sheathing is dull (as opposed to shiny), and has a texture that is not as smooth as shinier cables with heavier outside casing. If I was running this cable through a bunch of stuff, or running lots of it for a big project I would absolutely not buy it due to the cheap sheathing. If you want a cable that works and is cheap - this is it! Just beware the stench!

soft and works smoothly

I used this cable from 2nd floor to 1st floor through the stairs. It bends well and fits the corner nicely. I do need something to hold it down and make it straight tho. I would buy it again.

These cords are great! They cost around $70 in the store, so we're glad we checked here first. Thank you!

Can't recommend this cable

(2 out of 5) by W. Friese on Aug 13, 2009
I recently purchased this 100ft cable and installed it to connect a modem with a Satellite DVR. The wire is very slight and the protective cover was easily damaged. Also it pinched easily and was impossible to push straight through a drilled hole in the wall. I had to put it in a rod first and then push the rod through the wall to get the wire through. It was a big pain to get done. I had given up trying to get it through the drilled hole in the wall when I came up with the plan to put it in a curtain rod, which was the only way it would have worked. Trust me: you get what you paid for! This is cheap stuff in every sense of the word!

In the end it did connect the modem and the DVR. So I admit it worked, but I wish I had paid a little more and gotten the heavier wire, which would have made the installation much easier and would likely last longer.
