Mitsubishi's Best Large Rear Projection

(5 out of 5) by Electronic Junkie on Mar 20, 2007 (Livermore CA)
Mitsubishi's factory hype would, somewhat surprisingly, seem to be quite accurate. The only downside (besides price of course) is the narrow viewing angle endemic to this technology. For us, this is no problem, as we have a long, narrow, living room with this set placed at one of the smaller sides. We, and visitors to our home, feel that it is like seeing a movie on a large screen. Even standard definition content looks better than it ever did on our old tube set (a 36 inch Sony XBR. Quite good for its day).

Overwhelmed

With few words I must say I adore my new Mitsubishi Diamond WD-73831. I purchased this a year ago, and as a result I have yet to go to a Movie Theatre. Unless I need 200 people to share a film I will now watch at home.

An impressive TV

(5 out of 5) by G. Vien on Jul 1, 2007 (USA)
This TV arrived three weeks ago as a replacement for their earlier model, the 73828, which went south on me after a year,12 days after the warranty expired. To Mitsubishi's credit, they eventually replaced that TV with this 831 after several failed attempts at repair failed.

This TV is working perfectly so far and the picture it provides is wonderfully clear. The colors are vivid and true and do not waver. Since I have integrated the set into my existing 5.1 surroundsound system, I can't comment on the audio it puts out since I don't use it.

A word on Mitsubishi. Since my old set was technically out of warranty, I suppose they could have refused assistance, but they elected to "take care" of me. There was no charge for the attempts to repair, and the brand-new 831 was delivered and installed free of charge.

I think it's safe to say I'll stay with that company as long as they make TVs.

Blew me away!

I replaced my old 65" Pioneer Elite with this product. I was stunned by the quality and clarity of the HD programming on this set. I've seen HD in the stores, but this seemed more vibrant and sharper, probably due to the lighting.

First, my big problem has been tying in all my components into one remote. With this sets NetCommand system, it works great. I can use the Mitsubishi remote to operate my Tivo HD, THX AV receiver, Toshiba HD drive. The NetCommand system uses infrared sensors/emitters that you place near your components. It was relatively simple to set up and I had everything working in about 10 minutes. My only complaint was that when I would turn off the TV, my DVD player would come on (if it was off and not being used). I just turned off the DVD power on/off functions in the NetCommand setup and it worked fine. Different DVD players might have different results.

My friends and neighbors have been blown away as well. We invited some friends over to go to dinner but when they saw the set, we ended up ordering pizza in and watching an HD movie.

Mitsubishi recommends a certain stand with this product that I found to be too short for my components. I used the MB-73GB stand instead which isn't a perfect fit but looks fine and gives me several more inches in height on the shelves for the components.

Overall, a great purchase!
