It's a POWER CORD! :)

(5 out of 5) by Josh Daniel S. Davis on Aug 21, 2009 (Lake Dallas, TX)
The cord is about as long as can be had for figure-8, 2-prong cords.

The other end is standard, 2-prong, US, non-polarized plug.

The ends are molded on and are snug.

The sheathing is a satin finish (not very glossy).

The cord is not sticky like many other brands, so it doesn't seem to pick up as much carpet fuzz.

The connectors fit snugly into the sockets and hold tight. No forcing required, but they don't wiggle loose either.

It's a pretty heavy duty cord.

The cable is labeled with this text:

KOK KAWASAKI (UL) E42955 NISPT-2 VW-1 2/18AWG FUJIKURA-T CSA PT-2 FT2 2/18AWG ZION

E42955 and FUJIKURA mean the cord is manufactured by:
FUJIKURA LTD
1-5-1 KIBA
KOTO-KU
TOKYO, 135-0042 JAPAN

The NISPT-2 means Nylon Irradiated, Stranded, Parallel, Thermoset, 2 conductor. NI is rated up to 105C before it begins to degrade. Stranded means it's for AC power ideally. Parallel means it's a flat cord. Thermoset means the outer insulation is melted on and will provide a little more durability.

2/18AWG means 2 conductors (110v and neutral), at 18 American Wire Gauge. 18AWG copper in open, 30C air will reach 105C at 18 Amps. A 6 foot length will have about 0.05 Ohms of resistance. As an extension cord, the copper is rated for 7 amps. Pull less if it will be wadded, or packed tightly without open air, or packed with other cords.

VW-1 - Interior conductors may be wrapped in Varnished Cambric (fabric), which is rated to 185F for dry locations only. The W means the outer layer is rated for 2000 volts, extra heavy duty usage. It's oil and dirt resistant.

CSA - C means "Cord" as in lamp cord, rated for temporary use (ie, not for installation in walls). S means Hard Service, for use as a pendant or on a garage floor. A means asbestos. The interior weave may be resistant to breaking down if overheated. This is embedded in the thermoset plastic, and should not be a health concern.

FT2 means a fixture wire, overall rated for up to 90C, with thermoset plastic outer cover, with 2 conductors inside.

UL means Underwriter Laboratories listed.

Works

(5 out of 5) by Michael K. Scherzer on Nov 26, 2007 (Fairfax County, VA)
Extra cords are always nice to have, these work for everything have "thrown" at them. I have used the with devices made by Dell, Sony, Nikon and Lenovo/IBM.

Works fine - good quality

Non polarized (same shape both sides). Good - works - it should - its a simple cord.

Good enough

(3 out of 5) by E. Lien on Nov 4, 2009 (Norway)
It looks good and fits perfect, thus the three stars. We bought two for two different laptops, the first cord fail intermittent, the second failed two months later. 2 out of 2, could be a coincidence, bat batch, what do we know. Anyways: good idea to keep some cords in the drawer in case of trouble.

Quality replacement cord

(5 out of 5) by M. Holdeman on Oct 19, 2009 (Parker, CO)
I ordered this to replace a broken power cord for an old Technics digital piano and it works great. It was much cheaper than any other replacement cord I found on the web (even with shipping). This cord is non-polarized, so make sure that's what you need.
