Read NO Write

Very Poor Product, nice design. This hub would not work with even a small USB card reader (Transcend RDS5). The card reader works fine when plugged directly into the computer, but not when plugged into this hub. The reader could read a card ok through this hub, but could not write to it. I suspect a bus-power issue. Returned for a refund.

Great Product

First off, I would like to say that I really like this hub; it has made my life much easier. The construction of it seems very solid, not cheap and made of low-grade plastic like I expected. I also loved that there were no drivers to install (As of 1-15-10), which obviously made set-up easy. When I first handled the product, it was slipping out of its "stand" very easily, and I quickly became frustrated. I looked further into the box, and noticed that the company had included a piece that you put onto the stand to make the hub not slide as easily. The only thing I have found that is bugging me is that when I plug in my 1st gen Ipod Touch, instead of charging the Ipod, it seems to take away power from it. This must only be a problem on my end, because none of the other reviews mention it. If there was a 4.5 rating, I would give it, because that one issue isn't enough to warrant a 4/5, it should be 5/5.

waste of time

Great at first sight...and then DEAD?!

I purchased this item November 11, 2009 ~ it is now nearly 2 mos. after that and this hub has gone completely dead. I started having issues with this about 1-2 weeks ago when I noticed that the mouse I have hooked up to it kept having issues. I only kept about 3 or 4 items connected to it at all times, some of which weren't even "on" all the time. For instance, I had my camera connected, but only operated it when I needed to upload pics. I also kept my phone USB cord connected, but only used that when I wanted to sync songs or charge it briefly. Other than that, just my mouse was hooked up and maybe my USB 5lb. scale for shipping purposes. Like mentioned before, I've had this less than 2 mos. and the whole thing is now dead, but gives me pop-up errors on the screen saying that the connected USB is not recognizable. About a week ago was the first error, so I unplugged everything, let it "simmer down" for a few, then plugged everything back in and it worked great - until now. Now, nothing will work. I specifically purchased this one because it wasn't the cheapest one for sale ~ you always hear "you get what you pay for" ~ so I paid like $25 for this one hoping that it would work better than most. Also, I liked this one because it was a 7-port hub, which was plenty of ports for my extra stuff. In addition, I bought this one because it included the a/c adapter. Since the first hook-up of this item, I've always used the a/c adapter. So, I don't know why this thing won't work, but it's been such a pain. Hopefully the replacement Amazon is sending will work better. If I were you, I would maybe try finding a better USB hub with better reviews or something. I just don't think this one works that well after 1-2 months.

Can I get a sixth star?

Guys, this is THE hub. In a world where USB hubs flop around under the desk at the mercy of their own cables, this one is like a piece of machined billet aluminum. You either tape or screw the base to your desk, then slide the hub on. It's now fixed in place. It comes with a mini-USB to USB cable to connect it to your computer. Then there are 7 more full-size USB sockets, 3 on one side, four on the other. The blue LED "eye" is nice but not obtrusive. A lovely metallic jewel in a crowd of junky plastic. Spend the extra $10.00 or so and get this one.
