Solid unit, short cable

(4 out of 5) by ForestLass on Mar 19, 2007 (Payson, AZ USA)
Nice, solid, small footprint. I would have given it a higher rating but the "3-foot" cable is actually 20". It wouldn't reach the hub on my desktop to the tower below. Luckily, I had a spare cable, so I didn't need to buy another and could start using the hub immediately.

Crashing my PC

(1 out of 5) by Frank Maschkowski on Feb 15, 2008
This usb hub works fine except after anytime from 30 minutes to 4 hours, it crashes my PC, xp pro amd 3700+.

The first hub stopped the restart at the Bios.

The replacement allows the restart.

Yes, you can mount the hub vertically

(5 out of 5) by bdn on Dec 13, 2007 (Huntington Beach, CA USA)
Comes with the package is a foam piece that you can attach to the base. Here is the text from the enclosed instruction cut sheet:

"Attach the enclosed foam piece horizontally to the center of the base if you prefer your hub not slide out of the base so easily. This will cause enough resistance between the base and the hub to prevent the hub from sliding off. This is ideal for situations where you would like to mount your hub vertically."

I attached the foam piece as instructed and the hub stays with the base very well.

The best 7- port USB hub you will find

(5 out of 5) by Las Vegas Mikey on Jun 2, 2007 (East McKeesport, PA USA)
I have to agree with Carl Scharenberg's review!

After searching for the "perfect" hub, I found it here. I mounted it under the shelf above my laptop and it looks real good. The only thing I am wondering is why they sent tiny machine screws to use for mounting. I used a couple of countersunk wood screws instead.

I plugged in the power supply, and the cool blue light came on. Next I shut down my Dell Latitude D531 laptop and plugged in all of the USB cables that run my CanoScan scanner, Seagate 250 gig external harddrive, wireless mouse, external CD/RW drive, HP laser printer, ThinkPad laptop (it shares my printer), 35-in-1 digital camera card reader, and my USB Powered and Most Efficient Aluminium Cooler Pad. With everything plugged in, I still have one port left empty for future use. You can also piggy-back another hub if you need more ports.

I turned on the Dell, and it found all of the "new" peripherials in about 45 seconds. This hub is truly plug & play. It's very well designed, and works flawlessly. You won't find a better one.
