Wonderful Printer
I have used this printer for about 3 weeks. It is awesome, I love it. I am a photographer with experience doing B&W and color developing. This printer is a major advance. The large format creates such impact and the quality is so good that, for the first time, I am hearing comments like, "You can sell these prints!" I like the sound of that.

great professional quality
Very good professional printer, easy to use, adaptable for all my photographic printing needs. This is my first professional printer, so it took some getting used to as far as setting the settings for different paper size and so on, but overall it's relatively easy to figure out your preferences. It produces an exceptional quality photo! The only thing that hurts is the cost of the ink, $60 per cartridge and nine cartridges! A nice feature is it automatically changes the black for you...nice! What a difference a professional printer makes, I will not ever go back to HP!

3800 is tops
Except for a dodgy front door flap, the Espon 3800 arrived hours early, well secured with over 40 bits of tape. The new [beta] drivers from Epson for Leopard are way slicker than any I have seen before. Printing is a delight, results are excellent. I'd recommend this printer to anyone who's serious about making fine prints at home.

Epson owns your printer, even after you buy it
Don't buy the optional ColorBurst RIP software. There's nothing wrong with the software, except that it only works with Epson papers. You can never add another paper to the list. The RIP is also hard to use and loves to print on absurd locations on the paper, even when you select "center."
The printer itself is nice, and my one call to Epson support was handled well by a gentleman who was sympathetic to the castrated-RIP issue.
Be prepared to spend at least $[...] more for a full-fledged RIP.

Just the Best
As said by others, the 3800 does a beautiful job right out of the box. I have been using an Epson Photo 785EPX which does a good job but will only print up to 8X10. This is an investment and to me is well worth the money.
