Not so bad...

(3 out of 5) by J. Nisbet on Aug 21, 2008 (Southern CA, United States)
Just wanted to add my two cents, as this is the VCR/DVD player we use daily, playing movies for my two kids, and (sometimes) us adults. We purchased it at Wal-Mart for $60 (dude, how did you pay $90 for this?!?), and for over two years, no problem on either side. It may not be fancy, but not everyone has a "one-star" experience with this product. We like it!

Don't buy any Magnavox. It's all Chinese trash.

(1 out of 5) by John E. Di Gilio on Feb 14, 2008 (NC)
I bought this piece of junk from Wal-Mart a little over a year ago and paid too much to begin with. I paid close to $90.00. Then I started to have problems shortly after the warranty ran out. It still plays DVD's but the VCR wont play at all. I substituted the junk with another VCR unit that I have and it played fine, so what I did was prove the cable connections etc. were class A and working fine. I only played about 3 VHS tapes in this thing and it shouldn't have quit with no reason as soon as it did. This is why I claim that the cheap Chinese manufactured items that use our older respected brand names is a disgrace. People in this country still believe that RCA and Magnavox are what they're purchasing. They aren't buying anything but Chinese inferior trash with our old trusted brand names all over the equipment and the boxes that they're in.
Unfortunately, I can't suggest an alternative. All the off-shore items seem to be trash. Complain to your congressmen. Notice that I didn't capitalize congressmen. Our companies, years ago, made fine products, as well as the Japanese and Taiwanese manufacturers. Now we're forced to buy this second class trash from the Chinese, while they laugh at us.
WHY??

Nice Unit. Plays Great!

(4 out of 5) by D. Morse on Jan 31, 2008 (Glendale, AZ USA)
I was hoping to find a remote for my unit when I came across the reviews and just had to add my two cents worth! Don't remember when, how much or where I bought my system but it's been at least 3 years and no problems at all. I use the VCR the most as I find all the extra stuff on DVD's a waste of time. (Better they add another movie to use up the space!) My only complaint about the MDW2205 (besides not having a remote and that's thanks to a !*&* burglar!) is that it doesn't play photo CD's. Otherwise. it plays great and I've gotten my money's worth out of it.

Broken VHS after 10 months

(1 out of 5) by J. Phipps on Jan 30, 2008 (Madison, WI United States)
I originally bought this because I didn't want 6 million wires behind my entertainment center. But it's not been reliable, and the VHS part broke only after 10 months. The DVD's still play, but I'm wondering when it's going to go...

BROKEN UNIT

(1 out of 5) by Douglas Coyne on Jul 19, 2007
I BOUGHT ONE FROM WALMART. STOPPED WORKING AT 12-15 MONTHS. FIRST THE DVD PLAYER PLAYER STOPPED PLAYING DISCS AT MONTH 12, AND BY 15 MONTHS THE VCR STOPPED WORKING ALSO. IT STILL POWERS UP AND TUNES CHANNELS ON VCR. IT IS JUNK. I WOULD GIVE IT LESS THAN 1 STAR IF I COULD. DONT BUY
