Nice Unit. Plays Great!

(4 out of 5) by D. Morse on Jan 31, 2008 (Glendale, AZ USA)
I was hoping to find a remote for my unit when I came across the reviews and just had to add my two cents worth! Don't remember when, how much or where I bought my system but it's been at least 3 years and no problems at all. I use the VCR the most as I find all the extra stuff on DVD's a waste of time. (Better they add another movie to use up the space!) My only complaint about the MDW2205 (besides not having a remote and that's thanks to a !*&* burglar!) is that it doesn't play photo CD's. Otherwise. it plays great and I've gotten my money's worth out of it.

BROKEN UNIT

(1 out of 5) by Douglas Coyne on Jul 19, 2007
I BOUGHT ONE FROM WALMART. STOPPED WORKING AT 12-15 MONTHS. FIRST THE DVD PLAYER PLAYER STOPPED PLAYING DISCS AT MONTH 12, AND BY 15 MONTHS THE VCR STOPPED WORKING ALSO. IT STILL POWERS UP AND TUNES CHANNELS ON VCR. IT IS JUNK. I WOULD GIVE IT LESS THAN 1 STAR IF I COULD. DONT BUY

Not so bad...

(3 out of 5) by J. Nisbet on Aug 21, 2008 (Southern CA, United States)
Just wanted to add my two cents, as this is the VCR/DVD player we use daily, playing movies for my two kids, and (sometimes) us adults. We purchased it at Wal-Mart for $60 (dude, how did you pay $90 for this?!?), and for over two years, no problem on either side. It may not be fancy, but not everyone has a "one-star" experience with this product. We like it!

Broken VHS after 10 months

(1 out of 5) by J. Phipps on Jan 30, 2008 (Madison, WI United States)
I originally bought this because I didn't want 6 million wires behind my entertainment center. But it's not been reliable, and the VHS part broke only after 10 months. The DVD's still play, but I'm wondering when it's going to go...

Very basic DVD player

(2 out of 5) by featheredprop on Jan 22, 2007 (Somerset, PA)
I bought this unit at Wal Mart. It's fine for renting and watching DVDs. I've had no problems with the VHS player as well.

The reason I give it only 2 stars is because it claims to be able to play DVDs in most any format. That is incorrect. I burned some videos onto DVD-Rs and tried playing them in the player. It wouldn't recogize the format. I have read some other reviewers comments and have found that its inability to play other formats is fairly common.

So, for $60 DVD player, I suppose it is okay. Just don't buy this unit expecting to play all of the formats that it claims to be able to play.
