Sound clarity. A lot options mode and easy to find them. Also music mode let you know play all speakers in harmony very interesting. Movie never need to be better sound beleive me. Just read all reviews and you can notice that almost everybody is saying that same: Good I can say excelent quality with the cost. I am very happy with this system and I know about sound I have very good taste on every details that speakers make, no distortion is made with this system. I am using very good speakers (Elite)and 150w powered subwoofer (Sony), man its awesome! If you have more money that is okay to looking for upper models but with the same cost you do not need better system. I have no interest to make anybody buy this, I just wana show you my opinion.

JUST REPLACED MY YAMAHA 5.1 RECEIVER, (RXV 995),TEN YEARS OLD, WITH THIS RECEIVER, PIONEER 1016. EXCELLENT WARM SOUND. USING KLIPSCH SYNERGY ll SPEAKERS FROM AMAZON $299.00 FOR THE FIVE SPEAKERS, ALSO USING HSU SUB STF-2, WORKING WELL TOGETHER. VERY PLEASED. THE THX ALSO MAKES A DIFFERENCE WHICH THE OLDER YAMAHA DID NOT HAVE. THIS RECEIVER COST HALF THE PRICE OF THE YAMAHA WHEN I BOUGHT IT (THE YAMAHA) TEN YEARS AGO AND IT SOUNDS BETTER, MORE OPEN, LOTS OF POWER FOR MUSIC AND MOVIES. BEST RECEIVER FOR THE PRICE, I BELIEVE. MANY BENEFITS OF THE ELITE LINE AT A MORE AFFORDABLE PRICE. I PAID FULL PRICE FOR IT AND IT WAS STILL A GOOD DEAL TO ME, NOW AMAZON IS SELLING IT FOR LESS. BUY IT!!

Excellent sound and super easy setup. Make sure you measure your entertainment unit before purchasing since this receiver is longer (front to back) than most units and it might not fit properly.

Comparing to the alternatives you get a great one for the price. I had the 1015 for 3 years before I upgraded to this to get the HDMI plugs. I use it with 7.1 PolkAudio 7.1 speaker set and active subwoofer (400 watts). Drawbacks: If you use this for a home sound system where I have speakers in the ceilings in all of the main areas and the patio the receiver does not have speaker B outlet in the back and you have to use the rear surround speakers for that purpose (to run it through a speaker switch). The quality you get out mode B is not the same as what you get in Mode A and in mode B your Subwoofer does not work. Second issue is that you don't have on screen menus for set up that is useful for a theater room setup.
