Excellent Receiver
I purchased this receiver to shift an also great Harmon Kardon out of my dedicated home theater room. I decided to get the 1016 over the 816 because of the overall better build quality and the HDMI. The HDMI is video pass-through only but my TV only has one HDMI input so the receiver gives me an easy switching option. I am thoroughly pleased with the features and sound of the Pioneer. It has more than enough power and the sound is very detailed and crisp. My only grip is that the receiver seems to be a bit longer in depth than most. Excellent buy.

Replacement of
This product was purchased to complete a High Definition implementation.
I upgraded the DVD player, TV service and TV at the same time.
I thought the HDMI interface was to provide both Video and Audio, it appears that I was mistaken. There were other products I didn't purchase because they claimed only HDMI passthrough functionality. It wasn't until I read the owners manual that I found out that this is also true for the 2 HDMI ports on this receiver. All HD components require two cables to connect, HDMI for 1080I Video and optical/digital cable for audio.

Awsome Receiver
Really a top notch product. I don't need to go into great detail here. It totally meets and exceeds expectations. Particularly, the auto calibration feature is very accurate, and blows the competition out of the water (which is why I settled on this unit). The only grip is that sound is NOT transferred through HDMI, requiring separate TOS-Link or coaxial cables. This really isn't that big of a deal, though.

Pioneer still has what it takes
I was trying to stay away from home theatre receivers but as things turned out I had to have one for Blu-Ray.For the money this is the best.I have no regrets about buying it.THX rated for under $500.00.What else can I say.Well it has 2 HDMI inputs and 1 HDMI output. This is great since my tv has only one HDMI input. It also has 2 fibre optic inputs and one fibre optic output. This is good news for my CD recorder and my PS3.Again for the money one cannot go wrong.
Maybe the remote is a little confusing but in time I am sure even I will figure it out.If you are on the fence about buying it,I am sure you will not be disapointed.Just don't compare it to the Pioneer Elite or the top of the line Denon because that would not be fair.Stay with the price point and you will like it.

For the price it is greatest.
If your buying it for HDMI remember it's pass-thought only.
I still had to connect optical cables for audio on all source devices. I knew that and didn't mind. The Automatic MCACC is the greatest. Setting up the input devices was easier than my last pioneer.
Manual was very good!
Note: I have had pioneer's since the 70's, but this one is the best I have had for the price.
You can find it a little cheaper at CC than here, but shipping here was fast for FREE ground shipping.
Walmart had the best price for the HDMI cables. I am not
getting sucked into MONSTER (prices) cables.
