Great Receiver. Ignore first reviewer's rating on the shipping.

(5 out of 5) by X. Ni on Dec 19, 2006 (PA)
Awesome receiver, lots of inputs. Simple and good autoconfiguration. It is able to convert all inputs to component. Don't use the HDMI but its there. I wish it had more than 3 S/PDIF ports but I'm an overly optical kinda person. Cheap receiver with all the features of higher priced ones. Lots of controls on front for the times when you've misplaced your remote (some people find this unattractive but personally like the buttons not covered up). No audio sync feature but it's not really a problem unless your projector or HDTV is slow. You can map component, coxial, and optical ports to any of the sources despite all of them having labels.

A great receiver, with one caution

(5 out of 5) by B. Lee on Feb 13, 2007 (Colorado)
This is a powerful, flexible, and easy to operate receiver, with one caution I will cover later. I purchased it to replace a still operating 5.1 receiver. Most of the receiver functions can be figured out without even referring to the well written manual. The learning remote was able operate all of my equipment with some reprogramming of its buttons after starting with the preprogrammed codes. The only thing the remote can't do is change the tone controls, but there are two tone control presets you can select remotely. My only **CAUTION** is with the remote. Make sure the remote control is asleep (The display on the remote is blank.) when you change the batteries. This takes a few seconds of inactivity. If the display is on, which means the remote is awake, the remote will forget all programming including all learned functions when you remove the battery. The remote at this point will only operate the receiver, and will have to be reprogrammed. Don't let this stop you from buying this great receiver. I would buy it again in a flash.

awesome, just wonderful

(5 out of 5) by Manmohan Das on Jan 30, 2007 (Detroit, USA)
I connected this receiver last week, used polk rm6900 speakers. This receiver is really nice, the auto setup does a very decent job, barely had to make any additional tweaks. The receiver manual is clear, the remote has a lot of buttons but well explained in the manual. Plus pioneer has good customer service too..atleast I got a good response for a few questions I had...and the price I bought at AMAZON was a steal! $375

First impressions

(4 out of 5) by Paul J. Biermann on Mar 31, 2007 (Columbia, MD USA)
I have only had this for 4 weeks, so I have not tried out all of the possible combinations, but so far it meets all of my expectations and it lives up to the other reviews that I read on it before purchasing. This is my first true A/V receiver; I had an older Onkyo Amplifier that provided good service over 15 years. I also upgraded my speakers from 2 positions to 5 with front L/R, rear L/R and a center speaker. I had Fluance SV-10's with the Onkyo and added an AV-SC and two AV-BP2 speakers. The room is small enough that I do not need a subwoofer. The VSX-1016 can be configured to route the low frequencies to the two main speakers and you can choose to bi-amp those speakers if you do not want to use the 2nd Zone feature. The sound is phenomenal. I have not made the jump to a large flat screen yet, so I cannot evaluate the HDMI connections yet or any of the HD performance. CD and DVD performance is very good. After I have used it more, I will submit an update. Based on the performance for value I would recommend this to others.

MOST WELL ROUNDED RECEIVER

(4 out of 5) by Maka Veli on Jul 9, 2007 (San-Diego, CA United States)
After tinkering with the Pioneer VSX-1016TXV-K for 2.5 weeks, I have to say I am impressed. If you want a well rounded receiver without having to spend an arm and a leg, this is probably the best bet. Rated as an 8.4 average user rating at CNet, this will definitely set and meet your audio needs.

Pros: Lots and lots of inputs (plus 2 HDMI inputs and 1 HDMI output 1.2), excellent user interface, great sound auto sound setup, beautiful sound (THX cert), and really aggressive looks.

Cons: May not be the most user-friendly receiver, HDMI output is video only, and HDMI output cannot be used as the primary output source.

Overall, considering the price, the bells and whistles, ease of use, reliability, sound quality, and dependability, this item deserves a 4 out of 5. Highly recommended for the price sensitive/audiophile/gadget enthusiast buyer.
