Good little player
Great little player with 5.1 surround sound capabilities......however, can get it cheaper at walmart. Just a little hint there.......

Won't play all formats of home-made dvds
Overall, it's a nice little dvd player. If you're only playing regular store-bought dvds which are in great condition, then this little player is phenominal, and you'll be quite happy. However, it is a little extra-sensitive to scratched dvds, and it won't play all formats of home-made videos.
We have 2 dvd players. This little magnavox, and a higher quality dvd recorder and player. The higher-end will play through most of the scratches on the dvds, whereas this magnavox will get stuck on most of the same scratches.
Also, this magnavox won't play all formats of home videos burned to DVD+R. We burned some from our computer, and some on our dvd recorder, and only some of them play on this magnavox dvd player. I wish I could remember which ones we burned which way, but I can't. If you have a video of an ultra sound from Fetal Photos, it won't play those either. I haven't tested DVD-Rs because I don't have any.
But like I said, regular store bought videos (including Netflix, Blockbuster, etc..) play just great, so long as they are in nice condition.

Very Impressed... Small, simple, it does the job
*** Update: Its now been 2 years and my 2 dvd players are still going strong. A great purchase!
This dvd player is small, very simple looking and gets the job done. I just installed it today and played a video and it was fine. Time will tell if it will be this way in a year but im optimistic, especically after reviewing other reviews who have indicated that it has performed well after one year.
UPDATE: Its been almost a year since Ive had this unit (actually I have two) and they're working fine. A great purchase!

Good while it lasted...
I got this as a Christmas gift from some friends after my last DVD player gave up it's ghost. It's now July...about 7 months later...and this player is dead already. It was fine up until a week ago, where you had to open/close the DVD tray several times to make it read a DVD. Now it won't recognize any disc at all. Sure, it's cheap...but only lasting half a year is still too short for any kind of product to be considered a good buy - at least in my opinion.
Cheap and not cheerful
OK, so this dvd player is cheap so you can't expect too much. However, I didn't expect to see a blue screen everytime I put a disc in and have to turn the player on and off numerous times and take the disc in and out until it played. So not worth it. Spend an extra $20 and get a player that actually works and will last!!
