Onkyo 540

(5 out of 5) by Stephen R. Deem on Aug 3, 2009 (Marietta, Ohio United States)
The product was the best I could find for the money and have not been at all dissappointed.... They sound great and are big enough to supply a full range of sound.. I was a skeptic when it came to a 7.1 speaker system for the cost after looking at the price of all others... luckily I came across these in a review right before buying a 5.1 system.... I'm running these from a Denon 789 Receiver... I hope this helps someone with making a decision.... I know how hard it is to buy just speakers and worry if you are getting the right stuff.

Of course my horse...

(5 out of 5) by Nathaniel Bruce on Mar 16, 2009 (Florida Keys, USA)
So I paired these speakers with the Onkyo TX-SR606 receiver and it's pretty much the sweet bomb diggity. I got a PS3 and a Hitachi 52" Plasma, and DirecTv HD, and these speakers just complete the whole package. It took me about 3-4 hours to properly run all the wiring and I am dreading taking it all out when I move but, it's definitely worth it. I bought better speaker wire as the speaker wire is pretty thin. (Think dental floss.) Anyways I originally ran the speakers with the supplied wires and now I think I have like 12 or 14 gauge. I honestly cannot tell a difference. If I had to do it again I would have saved the 60 some dollars I spent on speaker wire and used it towards something else. Blu-rays maybe. I did have quite a time mounting the surround speakers as they are pretty hefty and they are designed to hang flat against the wall. Flat against the wall doesn't work in my house as the living room is oddly shaped. I bought some speaker mounts from best buy and I had to rig some makeshift brackets as I was worried the speakers wouldn't stay on the mounts. (You can't see them though so it's cool.) If you have a perfectly square room or something similar don't worry. The mounts on the surround sound speakers look like something you would hang a picture or painting with. Long story short... These are the speakers you want, they rock. Do whatever you have to to get these: rob, steal, kill, sell your 1st born, it'll be worth it.

Onkyo SKS-HT540 7.1 Home Peaker System

(4 out of 5) by Michael Colten on Jan 14, 2009 (Leominter, MA)
I recently purchased these 7.1 surround speakers because I wanted the best sound out of my new Sony BLu-Ray player and new 46" LCD Bravia High Def TV.
They are replacing a 5.1 Bose system which had smaller speakers but excellent sound.
The setup was easy especially using HDMI connectors and the sound is very good. Unfortunately, as of now there aren't too many Hollywood released features offering 7.1 sound, but they do come in True HD and DTS. The sound I hear is excellent and I am waiting to put them through a more rigorous test when more releases are avaliable to take advantage of 7.1.
I think they are an excellent buy for a small to medium sized room that doesn't need overbearing power and the rear 4 speakers are small enough to fit on wall mounted stands quite easily.
Overall I am very happy with the purchase.

Best Budget Speakers

(5 out of 5) by JOJ POL on Oct 25, 2008
These speakers are awesome! The trick though is the correct placement of the speakers for you to get true surround. I hooked them up to my Onkyo 7.1 receiver and it automatically callibrated the speakers. The speakers are also a little bit larger than they look in the pictures and the sound they produce rivals the towering, bulky speaker systems.

Perfect performance price-point for me

(4 out of 5) by TexRC on Nov 9, 2008
Big box. Big speakers. Nice. After connecting up to my Onkyo TX-SR606 reciver was amazed at the decent sound... especially in a 17 x 24 room and for this price. I like knowing that I didn't pay too much and didn't really sacrifice that much at all. Yes, the speaker wires were a bit on the small side... but hey, they gave me enough to cover a pretty large room and I liked it that they were color-coded. The subwoofer doesn't blow me away, but it sounds good to me for a movie or gaming.
