Just picked this bad boy up at Best Buy for $1900. You simply cannot beat the price for screen size especially in 1080p. Doubly so if you are looking for a unit to pull double duty, as a monitor and a television.
Some have complained that Westinghouse remotes and menus are simplistic. You can adjust the picture in numerous ways, have a ridiculous range of inputs, wide array of PIP options, numerous options for use as a PC monitor.... simple = VERSATILE. It's a Buddhist thing.
The picture, after twiddling with settings on the TV and my DVD player, is awesome, aven tho I cannot get my DVD player to produce a progressive signal! (fault of the player, not the TV). Once I have solved that, and it looks EVEN BETTER, I may never sleep again!
As for lack of tuner, who is receiving HD signals over the air anyway? why pay for technology you are going to use?
My one solitary complaint is not about the TV, but about eh nature of LCD screens, one that has cursed laptops for 20 years. A backlit matte screen cannot produce a true deep black. Toshiba and Sony have somewhat solved this on their laptops by producing screens with a glass finish, and the results are beautiful, vivid and sharp as a razor. But the glass finish = GLARE everywhere. ugh.
I'll sacrifice a bit of picture quality to avoid reflected windows. Especially on a screen this big !!

Superb large LCD!
We are extremely happy with our new Westinghouse LVM-47w1 monitor which we purchased via Amazon.com. The picture quality, especially from our satellite's 1080i, is truly phenomenal! There is no banding, the contrast and colors all look great and images are crisp with a splendid 3D appearance. This set had far better images than what is currently available in local electronics stores in our area. We are accustomed to great color and excellent contrast, as we have owned a top quality 40 inch CRT television for quite some time. Amazingly, the 47 inch Westy provides color and contrast which is comparable to the CRT set; but there are no visible pixel lines and the image, via HD 1080i Dish Network Satellite signalling, is pristine, such that it appears that one is looking through a window at actual events. There is no ghosting; action shots do not reveal lag or noticeable delay.
There were only 3 partially compromised pixels (at the edges of the screen) which is excellent for a set with over 2 million pixels. Unlike high-energy-consumming plasma, each of the set's innumerable pixels are extremely small and not noticeable, even if one is positioned close up to the set.
We were amazed that standard definition programs looked as good as they did. We adjusted the Brightness parameters to a value of 46 and Contrast to a value of 60. Standard programming looks best in the 4:3 oriented mode.
The remote for this television is rather unimpressive; but with our Satellite remote doing most of the necessary functions (and with inexpensive, quality universal remotes available) it is a very minor detail.
Blacks look sufficiently dark... very nice for an LCD. If one sits at an angle away from the set, the picture remains quite sufficient and very good for an LCD; of course, too much of an angle will distort the colors and take away from the 3D effect, as with any flat screen.
This set is incredible and is a super-great buy, considering its relatively low price (for what you get). We are thrilled with this monitor and are delighted about having purchased it! When PlayStation 3 comes out, this unit will look even better with 1080p games and movies streaming in. With excellent LCD now at this nice size, resolution and quality, and at an affordable price, it may be that plasma is deservedly on the way out.
