It does the job

(4 out of 5) by N. Arafat on Oct 10, 2009
To make it short, I've have attached it to my Canon 5D Mark II and still picks up the inner noise sounds from the moving parts, the mic still works even if I turned it off!!.
The build quality is good and it is very light and short in length around 20cm. Sound quality is away better than the built-in mono mic. Its a little bit expensive.

High Performance Mic

(4 out of 5) by T. Striplin on Jun 29, 2008 (Maryland)
The microphone has overall very good performance and acoustics for a small boom microphone. The only feature I wish it had was an on/off light indicator. It's easy to forget to leave the microphone on after you shoot video. An indicator light would be helpful. I would recommend the purchase of this microphone for video projects.

Good mic on a budget

(5 out of 5) by L. Hill on May 18, 2008 (Rocklin)
I'm very pleased with this mic for doing training videos. I know it's not the same as a $700 shotgun, but for what I'm doing it's great. This mic gave great results when I was talking quietly with the mic about 2 to 3 feet from the me and the room was quiet. It also did great with loud music and a bunch of screaming 10 year old girls doing a music video at my daughter's birthday party...

Works well, cheaper than the Canon brand

(5 out of 5) by Denis J. Kucharski on Apr 23, 2008 (Medina, Ohio United States)
Although it still picks up some sound from the tape mechanism in my Canon HV20, it still sounds much better than the onboard microphone. The sound is directed relatively well and the construction of the mic seems solid. I am overall pretty happy with it.

Great addition, small problems keep it from being perfect

I didn't realize that the main benefit of an external microphone is actually eliminating and clarifying noises, rather than making them louder. Or, at least the main benefit of this microphone was. It cleared up a lot of the "gunk" that I was hearing, and made the sounds clearer, more distinct, and less muddled/muffled.

It's compact, looks professional, and works great. It doesn't work with a mini-advanced hot shoe, but thankfully using a regular one it doesn't appear nearly as obnoxious as some models.

Some problems: NO ON/OFF LIGHT! You have to be kidding me! I have to play back a clip to double check to see if the microphone is working? That's insane! I really don't know how they left this off. But, assuming you're obsessive compulsive about the battery, I guess it won't bother you too much.
